Havana Jam 1 album
$10.49 On 2005's CHRISTMAS SONGS, Diana Krall applies her sultry vocals and nuanced piano lines to a strong set of holiday classics. In addition to turning in a stirring performance of "The Christmas Song" that would make Nat "King" Cole proud, Krall eases into a swaying version of "Winter Wonderland" and a lush rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." With its dynamic arrangements and pitch-perfect ...
| | Miles Davis Kind Of Blue CD (1959) Bonus Track; Remastered
Havana Jam 1 CD music
$6.39 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic ...

| | Incredible Jazz Guitar Of Wes Montgomery CD (1960) SACD Hybrid
Havana Jam 1 CD music
$15.19 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
John "Wes" Montgomery taught himself to play at the age of nineteen and created a style as influential to jazz guitar as was Charlie Christian's to an earlier generation. Recorded in the early part of his solo career, THE INCREDIBLE JAZZ GUITAR OF WES MONTGOMERY defined standards for hard bop guitar which are as cogent today as they were in 1960.
The album jumps out with the quartet hustling through Sonny Rollins' "Airegin," where Wes performs his often imitated licks with grace and agility. His extended phrases, thematic development, harmonic and melodic embellishment come together in a formidable technique with a heavy swing. An impressive use of octaves and chords coupled with the rejection of a guitar pick in favor of his own thumb allowed Wes' guitar to sing with warmth and with beauty. The lyrical rendition of "Polka Dots And Moonbeams" and his own "D-Natural Blues" are prime examples of the fullness of his lines. To this day, whenever a guitarist uses octaves he runs the risk of comparison to Wes, such was his mastery of ...

| | Bob Wilber More Never Recorded Arrangements For Benny Goodman Volume II CD (2003)
Havana Jam 1 songs
$9.65 Bob Wilber & The Tuxedo Big Band: Bob Wilber (soprano saxophone, clarinet); Paul Cheron's Tuxedo Big Band.
Bob Wilber and these French people should have gotten some sort of humanitarian award from the United Nations for giving the world Vol. 1, which was devoted to the many arrangements devised by Fletcher Henderson for Benny Goodman's bands. The sequel is just as well conceived and carefully executed, with the added benefit of 16 additional arrangers! Again these are almost all hitherto unrecorded charts, excavated onsite at Yale's mammoth Goodman archive. Wilber composed the exception, "Tuxedo Stomp," written specifically for this band. The other pieces arranged by their composers are "Blue Interlude" by Benny Carter; "Conversation" by Mary Lou Williams; "Ballad for Benny" by Oliver Nelson; "Song of the Plow" by Alex Hill; "Clarinetta," composed and arranged by Mel Powell when he was only 18 years old; and Alec Templeton's "Mendelssohn Mowed Down." Also included ...
| | Voodoo Child Baby Monkey CD (2004)
Havana Jam 1 album
$15.29 Moby's Voodoo Child project has been the repository for various musical ideas he's taken an interest in, usually on a personal level: house early in his career, ambient techno during the mid-'90s, and for 2004's Baby Monkey, what he terms "straightforward electronic dance music." Prompted by a great night out in Glasgow, along with his subsequent wish to make an enjoyable record that wouldn't be scrutinized by fans and critics (who expect something specific ...

| | Roscoe Mitchell 8 O'Clock: Two Improvisations CD (2001)
Havana Jam 1 songs
$13.85 Baritone Thomas Buckner and saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell have been playing together for many years. The former's record label, Mutable Music, reissued early in 2001 the two Space LPs they recorded during the early '80s with Gerald Oshita. It was only fitting that after this nostalgic step, a new recording would follow to re-inscribe their collaboration in present times. 8 O'Clock: Two Improvisations was recorded in a studio on a December evening in 2000. As the years passed, Buckner's voice lost its slightly affected tone and gained depth, roundness, and flexibility. Roscoe Mitchell's ...
