Por La Boca Vive El Pez
$11.99 Joao Gilberto is perhaps forever destined to be lesser known to casual jazz fans than his occasional collaborator Stan Getz (whose GETZ/GILBERTO albums introduced the United States to bossa nova) and his ex-wife Astrud Gilberto (whose shy, delicate voice made her one of the most distinctive and beloved jazz vocalists of the '60s). However, true fans of Brazilian music recognize that Gilberto is second only to Antonio Carlos Jobim as a writer and interpreter of traditional Brazilian music and Brazilian-influenced jazz.
These two albums, collected in full on one CD, are among Gilberto's best solo albums. Alternating between standards like "'S Wonderful" or "Besame Mucho" and Brazilian tunes like Jobim's "Wave" and the original "Triste," AMOROSO is a fine, romantic ...
| | Eros Ramazzotti Eros (Italian) CD (1997) Italian
Por La Boca Vive El Pez
$9.05 The Italian version of EROS contains 2 songs that do not appear on the Spanish version. It also contains 8 songs that are completely re-recorded.
At the height of his popularity, after establishing a fan base for himself across much of Western Europe as well as parts of the Spanish-language world, Italian singer/songwriter Eros Ramazzotti took some time off during the late '90s and released Eros, a greatest-hits compilation comprised primarily of newly recorded material. The 16-track compilation is comprised of five songs that appear in their original versions, nine that have been newly recorded specifically for this compilation, and two new ones. While the decision to re-record the majority of the inclusions is unusual for a greatest-hits album, Eros ends up being a much more interesting album than it would have been otherwise. The nine songs that are re-recorded are the early hits of Ramazzotti, namely "Terra Promesa" (originally released in 1984), "Una Storia Importante" (1985), "Adesso Tu" (1986), "Ma Che Bello Questo Amore" (1987), "Musica E" (1988), ...
| | Feet Of Flames CD (1999)
Por La Boca Vive El Pez
$11.35 Michael Flatley is one of the top dancers and choreographers in modern performing arts. Lord of the Dance rivals Bill Whelan's Riverdance as one of the top dance phenomena of the '90s. Feet of Flames is also an important dance event of that decade. It matches Flatley with Ronan Hardiman again. As an event, it loses much in the translation to CD, but the music is beautiful and diverse. Hardiman covers many different styles and genres, including Celtic, new age, orchestral, contemporary vocal, and atmospheric ambient. It is an entertaining listen but more worthy of a visual experience. The disc will appeal to fans of the aforementioned discs by Flatley & Hardiman and by Whelan. ~ Jim Brenholts
"Feet Of Flames" was the hugely ...
| | Antonio Carlos Jobim Passarim CD (1987)
Por La Boca Vive El Pez
$12.35 Passarim is Jobim's major statement of the '80s, emerging during a time when Jobim's concerns were turning increasingly toward Planet Earth issues. The title song is one of Jobim's most haunting creations, a cry of pain about the the destruction of the Brazilian rainforest that resonates in the memory for hours. Also, by this time Jobim had resumed touring with a large group containing friends ...

Por La Boca Vive El Pez
$15.25 First released in 1964, this LP is the third and final volume in singer/songwriter Léo Ferré's series of tributes to French symbolist poets. After Baudelaire and Apollinaire, he turns to the damned pair of Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud. The latter's brief but blinding career and his love affair with the former, his mentor, remain among the most tormented -- and freely interpretable ...

| | Rayito CDs (2006) Digipak
Por La Boca Vive El Pez
$11.59 Rhythmically and melodically, Latin pop doesn't necessarily sound a lot different from English-language pop. Some Latin pop is strictly adult contemporary, Top 40, or teen pop that just happens to be in Spanish; the thing that sets it apart from English-language pop is a linguistic difference, not a rhythmic, melodic or harmonic one. But there are other Latin popsters who liberally incorporate Spanish and Latin American rhythms, and Antonio Rayo, aka Rayito, is a prime example. Rayito hasn't always focused on Latin pop vocals; in the past, he recorded as a flamenco guitarist/instrumentalist. But this self-titled disc is the Madrid native's debut as a Latin pop singer. There is no doubt that this is a pop album, but it is a ...
