Vermilion album
$10.19 Principally recorded at The Theater Studio & Mindswerve, New York, New York.
Mindless Self Indulgence's brilliantly named The Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy collects more of the group's outré, hip-hop-tinged industrial thrash. Singer Urine's bizarre falsetto sounds like a sped-up Jello Biafra, especially on tracks like "Boomin'" and "I Hate Jimmy Page." The album's 30 songs -- which sport titles like "Dicks Are for My Friends," "Cocaine and Toupees," "Faggot," and "Royally ...

| | NOFX 45 Or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough To Go On Our Other Records CDs (2002)
Vermilion songs
$9.79 This is a collection of NOFX tracks from various compilations, 7"s and EPs, plus a previously unreleased song and dub remix.
NOFX are masters of the punk ethic of self-deprecation, and it begs the question if they truly realize the mark they have made on the history of modern hardcore. After 18 years, the band that sums up its musical prowess humbly as "good," releases a staggering collection of B-sides, compilation tracks, and rare cuts (many of which were previously long out-of-print in their original 7" pressings).
A cover of the Seymour Simons standard "All Of Me" sets the tone for this collection, and boasts an attitude that really says it all; this band lives for doing things their way. It's easy ...

Vermilion album
$14.45 Blues-rock guitar wizard Joe Bonamassa can make a set of electric six-strings burn and wail, but like many such guitarists, he still requires ...
| | Little Brother Get Back CD (2007)
Vermilion CD music
$12.39 On Little Brother's third studio album GETBACK, 9th Wonder backs off the boards, producing just one cut and yielding production credits to Illmind, Khrysis, Mr. Porter, Nottz, Rashid Hadee, Zo!, and Hi-Tek. The end result is still an incredibly cohesive LP that relies on elevated lyricism and true-school reverence. Phonte and Big Pooh continue to hone their already-impressive mic skills, deconstructing narratives behind brand name materialism, ...
| | Reggae Gold 2000 CDs (2000)
Vermilion music CDs
$13.59 Initial packaging of REGGAE GOLD 2000 comes with a limited edition, continuous in-the-mix bonus CD compiled and mixed by Adonai.
VP Records continues its reggae compilation series with this double CD offering of new and established singers. Disc One features a variety of Jamaican music that ranges from spiritual, conscious fare like "Down by the River" by Morgan Heritage, to sexual conquest stories like "Call You," a terse duet between Lady Saw and Lexxus. Other highlights include yet another Sanchez cover (Sanchez made a name for himself covering pop hits from the U.S. in dancehall style), the Brian McKnight original "Back at One," which improves in its new guise; "Cook," another bawdy track from newcomer Lexxus; and "Stalag Y2K," a medley of songs that have all used the famous Stalag 17 riddim, including Buju Banton's "Sound Boy Killing," ...
| | Hal Russell Finnish/Swiss Tour CD (1990)
Vermilion songs
$15.55 Recorded live at the Tampere Jazz Happening, Finland and the Zurich Internationales Jazz Festival, Switzerland in November 1990. Includes liner notes by Steve Lake.
Most of the time, music critics like to pretend they know everything, are hip to every artist, on top of every trend -- what bull. I knew jack about Hal Russell until I heard Kevin Whitehead rave about this recording (and Russell in general) on NPR. Sufficiently impressed, I bought the disc the same day. It turned out to be one of the smartest things I've ever done and began what has been a love for the music of Hal Russell and a sadness that he's no longer around to make more. Whitehead was spot-on: This is an extraordinary record, full of fire, reckless abandon, and thrilling playing from Russell, obviously, but also from his great band, especially reed player (and one-time Psychedelic Fur) Mars Williams. Amazingly, this was Russell's first European tour (a total of six gigs), a fact made even more amazing upon realizing that Russell at the time of this recording was 64. Better late than never, ...

$9.69 Afro Punk may be misnamed as a compilation, but it contains utterly great music. In fact, the tunes here range from the new punk-metal (the opener "Protoculture (Sankofa)" by Cipher), to hardcore ("Kémite (Kahi)" by D-Fe), to melodic punk ("Are You Still Working ...

| | BirdMan Pricele$$ CD (2009)
Vermilion CD music
$15.96 He may be a veteran rapper, but by 2009, Birdman was better known and more active as a label owner, mostly because he was the label owner, manager, and mentor of hip-hop superstar Lil Wayne. As such, Birdman's Pricele$$ doesn't display a new set of skills when it comes to rapping and writing, but it does present the stone-cold millionaire as a more assured man, extremely comfortable to be on top and in charge of the now innovative and interesting Cash Money. If Birdman doesn't take lyrical chances, Wayne and Cash Money upstart Drake are more than willing, making tracks like "Money ...
