| | Elsiane Hybrid CD - Import Elsiane Discography of CDs
Elsiane is the duo of Elsieanne Caplette (vocals/ keyboards) and Stephane Sotto (drums). Caplette met Sotto when she arrived in Canada from Peru in 1999 and the pair hit it off immediately. Their music is electronica, trip hop that recalls the best elements of Bjork, Portishead, Morcheeba plus styles of world beats, ambience, jazz notes and even some classical motifs thrown in for good measure. But it's Elsieanne's voice that rings pure, loud and clear that will dazzle you. In reality, they really defy categorization...this is just one album that demands to be heard for any lover of good music. Elsiane Hybrid Songs | 1. | Vaporous |

$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Iron Butterfly was the American answer to the heavy riff-rock of British groups like Cream and Led Zeppelin, with a touch of Vanilla Fudge's organ-led theatricality and the Doors' mysterioso image. They will forevermore be known for the 17-minute title track of this, their second album.
"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" (a poke at singer/organist Doug Ingle's gruff, John Kay-like delivery of "In the Garden of Eden") is built around one of the most memorable riffs of the '60s. It's filled out by long solos from all concerned, especially from drummer Ron Bushy, whose lengthy extemporizing provided the template for Big Rock Drum Solos for decades to come. The rest of the tunes reveal that Iron Butterfly did indeed possess some pop sensibility to leaven the heaviness; "Flowers and Beads" in particular is simultaneously a romantic '60s pop-rock ballad and a subtle but surprising swipe at flower power culture.

| | Bmx Bandits My Chain CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom
Hybrid
$15.85 The BMX Bandits took a long break between the release of My Chain and 1996's Theme Park. You figure in that time Duglas Stewart might have taken voice lessons, grown up or changed musical direction a degree or two. Thankfully, none of those things have occurred. His voice is still a wheezy adolescent warble, he still gives the feel of an eternal teenager obsessed with silly jokes and the small details of love and life, and he still loves the Beach Boys, soft rock and jangling guitar pop and uses these influences very well. In other words just what fans of the BMX'ers have been missing for the last decade. There aren't many bands who get the balance of cute lyrics with dead serious ones, plinky keyboards and cheesy drum machines with fully strummed guitars and lush guitars or cringingly personal observations and laugh out loud funny jokes, as right as Stewart and his friends do. Certainly not many records have a sweet as syrup soft rock love song like "Something About Us" on the same record as "A Missing Front Tooth," a goofy pseudo-shanty that builds to a dumb joke about wayward girlfriends, pirates and the "plank." The whole record alternates between these extremes of camp and damp, as in what your hankie will be after crying into it after "Not Knowing You" or "The Sailor's Song." It makes for an interesting and satisfying indie pop experience. The arrival of My Chain also serves as a reminder that the next BMX record needs to happen much sooner that 2016. ~ Tim Sendra

| | G L Brackett In Big Trouble CD (2005)
Hybrid
$14.79 G.L. Brackett moved to New York City in 1990 after living in England for 5 years. In Big Trouble is a collection of songs played in the NYC scene since then. The songs compiled in In Big Trouble range in genre from folk to progressive rock, and the musicians on the disc hail from all over the country. They gathered in the meat-packing district in NYC in the mid-nineties at The Place (Stratosphere) to record through the night while Dizzy Izzy's lit up the late night streetwalkers before the sun woke up--and long before the glitz moved in.G.L. Brackett has played music in England and America and first recorded a version of Blake's "Songs of Innocence & Experience," produced and released in England in 1989. In the last few years, he has played up and down the East Coast, often with the Mighty Manatees Medicine Show (www.mightymanatees.com). What you will find in the songs included on this disc is a strong sense of the American song tradition, through Dylan and Guthrie, where lyrics are held ...
