| | Allman Brothers Band One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater CD Allman Brothers Band Discography of CDs
ONE WAY OUT can be seen as a sequel to the Allman Brothers Band's 2000 live album, PEAKIN' AT THE BEACON. Both albums were recorded within a couple of years of each other during the band's legendary annual Beacon residencies, but PEAKIN' marked the end of founding member Dickey Betts's tenure and mainly featured older material. In contrast, the group's first live album with new guitarist Derek Trucks (founding drummer Butch Trucks's nephew) draws much of its material from the '03 studio album, HITTIN' THE NOTE. Consequently, when the band lays into the elegiac "Old Before My Time" or the blues barn-burner "Woman Across the River," there's a freshness to it that hadn't been felt in the Allman camp for some time. Of course, the revamped Allmans can still tear into a staple like "Whipping Post" with imposing ferocity, Greg Allman's voice having gained gravitas with age. That can't be a bad thing for somebody who dedicates his life to singing the blues.
Recorded live at The Beacon Theatre, New York, New York on March 25-26, 2003.
The Allman Brothers Band: Gregg Allman (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, Hammond B-3 organ); Warren Haynes (vocals, guitar, slide guitar); Derek Trucks (guitar, slide guitar); Otiel Burbridge (bass); Jaimoe (drums); Marc Quinones (congas, percussion, background vocal).

One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater album
$12.39 Blackfoot was always the heaviest of the great Southern rock movement, and on Siogo(reputedly either a Native American word for "closeness" or a crude groupie acronym, probably the latter) the boys try to break into the metal market and regain their brief hold on American audiences. Staunch metallists will ...

One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater CD music
$12.39 Like their Native American ancestors before them, the members of Blackfoot must have known what it felt like to be exiled from their homeland. Only, rather than being forced into an Indian reservation, the world's first all-Native American hard rock band found itself trying to scrape together a good wage across the pond, where U.K. audiences couldn't seem to get enough of its uniquely metallic, Skynyrd-derived Southern rock. Despite experiencing diminishing returns in the good ol' U.S. of A., all three of their studio albums for Atco had been warmly embraced here, leading to nearly ...

One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater music CDs
$10.49 Although they'd managed to become bona fide second-division stars in England, where their incomparably heavy brand of Southern rock and devastating live performances had thrilled nostalgic Skynyrd disciples and open-minded metalheads alike, Blackfoot had made dispiritingly little commercial headway in their own backyard: the American market. So as pressure mounted to deliver a hit for their label, Atco, Rickey Medlocke decided to invite former Uriah Heep keyboard player Ken Hensley to join the band -- a calculated move intended to modernize the group's sound ...

| | Henry Paul Feel The Heat CD (1980)
One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater album
$10.49 Whatever happened to Henry Paul between the release of his band's debut album in 1979 and Feel the Heat in 1980 wasn't healthy. Whereas Grey Ghost was a record full of influences ranging from the Eagles to the Byrds to the Allmans and Lynyrd Skynrd tossed into a Southern-fried salad with Paul's own country, rock, and folk sensibilities, Feel the Heat feels like jarhead, clichéd Southern boogie rock. All the gorgeous harmonies, complex dynamics, tight songs, and sparking arrangements have been tossed over in favor of a heavy-handed collection of tired riffs, stupid lyrics, and themes that are saturated with drinking, picking up girls, and yeah, "Let's R-O-C-K." A harder edge isn't the problem; there's nothing wrong with turning ...

One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater CD music
$10.49 Henry Paul was a rhythm guitarist and vocalist for the Outlaws. He left the group in 1977 after its third album. He formed the Henry Paul Band in 1978 and signed to Atlantic later that year. Grey Ghost is the band's debut, and it is drenched in Southern rock influences as well as those of '70s West Coast bands such as the Eagles. The opening cut, "So Long," combines folk, country-rock, and the over the top guitar punch of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers, while "Crossfire" sounds like the Joe Walsh-era Eagles jamming with the Pure Prairie League and "Foolin'" has ...
