Digitally remastered and expanded reissue of the British Goth Rock band's classic 1986 debut album, now including four bonus tracks: 'Wasteland' (Anniversary Mix), 'Severina' (Aqua Marine Mix), 'Wishing Well' (Previously Unreleased) and 'Love You To Death', the originally intended intro to 'Love Me To Death' that was removed due to time constraints. God's Own Medicine was The Mission's first album proper. Having signed to Phonogram following several successful independent single releases, the album contains their biggest hit 'Wasteland'. The album reached No.11 in the Top 40 and quickly earnt a gold certification. Produced by Tim Palmer and recorded very quickly (by The Mission's standards!) this album captures the energy and vibrancy of a band fresh to the music world. It is arguably the best Mission album to date. The package comes with a 12 page booklet including sleevenotes by Wayne Hussey and is packed with photographs and memorabilia. Universal. | | INXS Welcome To Wherever You Are CD (1992) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
God's Own Medicine CD music
$6.29 Ironically, INXS's best and most experimental album came out exactly when the album-buying public had ceased paying much attention to them. After the multi-platinum success of 1987's KICK, the disappointing sales of 1990's follow-up X brought whispers of "has-been" to the Australian combo, and the fine LIVE BABY LIVE was largely viewed as an attempt to coast on former glories.
1992's WELCOME TO WHEREVER YOU ARE answered these accusations with surprising grace and subtlety. Arranged and largely written by keyboardist Andrew Farriss, these 12 tracks are almost Beatles-esque in their melodic canniness and sharply etched, multi-layered production. The first single, "Not Enough Time," is a particular delight, a breathy, atmospheric pop song that's as smart and pretty as 10cc at its creative peak.
Although INXS needed to experiment badly, their attempt at self-reinvention, Welcome to Wherever You Are, didn't even come close to gaining commercial or critical acceptance. From the start of the album, it's clear that INXS are out to confuse the standard perceptions of themselves; the first instrument on the album is an Eastern-flavored horn. Special recording effects and exotic rhythms and sounds are abundant on the album. Evidently, the pop audience didn't care about INXS anymore, since nobody bought the album. And that is a shame, since ...

| | Kovenant Animatronic CD (1999)
God's Own Medicine music CDs
$10.65 Sporting a retooled lineup and a new name spelling (in order to avoid confusion with the Swedish band Covenant), Kovenant moves toward the '90s mainstream with their sophomore album, Animatronic. While the sound is obviously rooted in the Norwegian black metal scene from which most of the band's members came, the album goes off in several different directions, often within the same song: more accessible, Cradle of Filth-style black metal, complete with female backing ...

| | Verve This Is Music: The Singles 1992-1998 CD (2004)
God's Own Medicine music CDs
$10.49 Though the band only made three studio albums before disbanding in 1999, the Verve still proved to be one of the most compelling rock groups to emerge from Britain in the '90s. THIS IS MUSIC: THE SINGLES 92-98 upholds the claim, and gives 14 prime examples of the ensemble's sharp songcraft and riveting sonic sweep. Powered by the rumbling of bassist Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury, and characterized by Nick McCabe's swirling guitar-scapes and Richard Ashcroft's hypnotic vocals, the Verve created a hugely expansive sound that drew from '60s psychedelia, mainstream rock, and an indie shoegazer ethos.
More subtle and atmospheric than contemporaneous work by Blur and Oasis, the Verve's spiraling, echoing textures were offset by a fierce edge that underscores the desperation at the music's core. This ...

God's Own Medicine album
$12.49 California-based PRESS is a mix between Classic Hard Rock, U.S. Power Metal and Heavy Alternative Rock. With strong melodies and dark progressive undertones, the band has a modernized sound that isn't dated. The songs are a combination of slow and heavy crunchers and mid-tempo rockers with huge, classic metal riffs, and strong melodic vocals. The band features a fantastic lead singer by the name of Rob Bonstin, who completely raises the band's sound to another level. Guitarist Terry Montana is a superbly skilled player and songwriter, and ...
| | Little Axe Stone Cold Ohio CD Import
God's Own Medicine CD music
$22.09 Little Axe is guitarist and singer Skip McDonald, but it's also much more than that. It is, in practice, a virtual reunion of the Sugarhill Gang -- the rhythm section responsible for the grooves underlying such paleo-hip-hop classics as "Rapper's Delight" and "White Lines" -- and therefore also a virtual reunion of Tackhead, the pioneering avant funk outfit that brought the Sugarhill Gang together with British producer Adrian Sherwood and vocalists Gary Clail and Bernard Fowler. In the Little Axe context, though, the focus is squarely on McDonald and on his overriding passion: vintage blues. Imagine a Delta blues aesthetic (spare, rural, and stark), and then imagine it thickened with additional instrumental layers and twisted with dubwise atmospherics, and you'll have some idea what to expect -- sort of like a posthumous collaboration between Howlin' Wolf and African Head Charge. The second Little Axe album features mostly McDonald originals, along with some well-chosen covers from the likes of Allen Toussaint, Skip James, and former Living Colour drummer Will Calhoun. ...
