There's a showdown at Rio Bravo when courageous Sheriff John T. Chance throws the brother of evil cattle baron Nathan Burdette in jail for murder. When Burdette's men lay seige to his jailhouse, Chance holds on until the arrival of a U.S. Marshal with the help of his drunken deputy, Dude, cranky old man Stumpy, and the beautiful long-legged Feathers. Director: Howard Hawks. Actors: John Wayne, Angie Dickinson, Dean Martin, John Russell, Walter Brennan, Ward Bond, Ricky Nelson. John Wayne stars as the sheriff of a small western town who arrests a murderer and then must contend with the aggressive efforts of the killer's brother to free him before the state marshall arrives. Surrounding the town, the villains make repeated runs at the tiny jailhouse where their comrade is incarcerated. The sheriff is left to defend the territory almost single-handedly -- his only aid being a rag-tag crew of misfits, including a drunk, an old cripple, a saloon woman, and a singing teenager. The plot's tensions build to one of the most explosive finales in cinema history. No-nonsense Texas border sheriff John T. Chance (John Wayne) fights off ruthless mercenary gunmen in order to keep a murderer in custody. A ragtag band of volunteers, consisting of a singing kid, a toothless old man, a recovering alcoholic, and a spunky woman, assist. Contains an interesting sing-along interlude among the group, and yes, the Duke participates. Shot in Technicolor. Rio Bravo Reviews: 5 stars out of 5 -- "Warm, witty and endlessly welcoming....It's arguably the quintessential Hawks flick."-- Matthew Leyland, Total Film "Hawks' picture is about standing up for yourself, embracing responsibility and acting with integrity....The film is subtle, good-natured, funny and charming."-- Nev Pierce, Empire Rio Bravo | List Price | $28.99 (You save $6.24) | | Studio | Warner Home Video | | Orig Year | 1959 | | All Time Sales Rank | 43767 | | CD Universe Part number | 7431181 | | Catalog number | 114272 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jun 05, 2007 | | Rating | Not Rated | | Running Time | 141 Minutes | | Additional Info | Remastered | | Movie Details | Color; Remastered |
Rio Bravo Movie Review My Favorite Western The box set DVD has a bright picture but it isn't cleaned up of black spots that occasionally appear. It is also cut for 16 by 9 TVs. So the original 2:25 to 1 has been changed. It doesnt hurt the movie but I expected the original aspect. On my large screen TV the film quality was lacking in spots.
There are 8 reproductions of lobby cards and the Dell Comic book reproduced.
There are no outakes except in the trailer where Rick Nelson speaks to you and Dean Martin voice is off screen.
This was a major dissapointment for me.
The second disc has 2 Features of Howard Hawks and a travel destination of the OLD TUSON Arizona Movie set, where this movie and others were filmed. I enjoyed learning about Old Tuscon.
No additional out takes or bloobers or even an outake of The Dean Martin Show with John Wayne.
Although this is one of my favorite movies of all time and my Favorite Western the DVD extras were not well thought out, so they were left out.
I waited 47 years for this special and whomever was responsible for the DVD extras failed. I liked the lobby cards and The Comic Reproduction was a surprise.
Another error was no commentary from Angie Dickenson !!! Comments by horror man John Carpenter. What a mistake not having Angie. Angie I love you!

part of a symphony Have always loved this film even when I got it mixed up with El Dorado. Often considered a trilogy with Dorado and finally Rio Lobo, it is actually a tetrology starting with Red River. Different angles on similar plot, parallel characters, repeated dialogue (some originating in To Have And Have Not--especially from the woman, i.e. from Bacall's character), Walter Brennan in Red and Bravo (out of Have/Have Not) and even insistence on a young actor--Montgomery Clift, Ricky Nelson, James Caan, young Mitchum and Estrada as a partial foil and apprentice to Wayne. More than remakes, they are "progressions". From Red with no law except their own to a law that needs a drunk to bend the law to a law that is drunk that needs a maimed gunslinger deputy, to finally a law that is lawless in the finale, Rio Lobo. An older Howard Hawks has almost come full circle--very odd. Is this the director's lake of faith in the State--a return to "grass roots Democracy"? I repeat, very odd. Or maybe I'm the one that is odd. Watch Red River, then Rio Bravo, then El Dorado and lastly Rio Lobo (that's a lot of water). Then go back to To Have And Have Not for the real genesis of so much of the this Hawks tetrology. Watch the John Ford cavalry trilogy, look for the same kind of looking at the same vase from different angles--I don't think that you will that that is the case there. Classic movie by Howard Hawks and the Duke. A Classic Western written and directed by Howard Hawks and starring the Duke at his zenith as an actor. Great supporting performances by Dean Martin and the always entertaining Walter Brennan. A morality play about self reliance and good vs. evil. Hawks is also at his zenith as a director opening the movie with plenty of action and not a word of dialogue for over five minutes. Hawks takes the successful formula of Red River and weaves together a cast of entertaining characters you can watch for hours. You will watch this movie more than once. $13.05 A classic Western regarded by many as the best of the genre, John Ford's THE SEARCHERS has been acknowledged by several directors who came into their own in the 1970s, including Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Paul Schrader, and George Lucas, as a powerful influence on their work. The film stars John Wayne as Ethan Edwards, a case-hardened Civil War veteran returning to his brother Aaron's (Walter Coy) Texas home in 1868. When Rev. Samuel Johnson Clayton (Ward Bond) arrives to raise a posse to run down the Comanche who have stolen the cattle of neighbor Lars Jorgenson (John Qualen), Ethan is among those who join him. They return to find the Edwards family slaughtered and the two girls, Lucy (Pippa Scott) and Debbie (Natalie Wood), missing. The posse continues to search for the girls but turns back ...

$29.79 Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, 300 takes over the screen like an invading horde. With all the gushing blood of a horror movie and the scope of a classic epic, the second film from Zack Snyder (who helmed the 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD) is an impressive visual spectacle. Gerard Butler (THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) plays Leonidas, the king of ancient Sparta. The city is famous for its warrior philosophy, and Leonidas won't kneel to the demands of Persia's King Xerxes (LOST's Rodrigo Santoro). Instead, Leonidas leads his 300-strong army against Xerxes's army of millions. ...
