Starring Marion Cotillard, Stanislas Merhar, Wadeck Stanczak
Director Alexandre Aja
Set in a fictional country in the future, society has been devastated by a 13 years war. The prevailing rulers have suppressed all liberties and self expression in their desperation to maintain order.

A futuristic fable comparable to George Orwell's 1984, FURIA offers a bleak peek into humankind's possible fate. The future government has obliterated any political opposition by shutting them down, as well as reigning in creative pursuits such as art and music. Aaron (Pierre Vaneck) is a local bartender who can only see in monochrome after an operation inflicted on him by government drones; he was assigned to this fate after being caught painting. His two sons, Theo (Stanislas Merhar) and Laurence (Wadek Stanczak) couldn't be more different from each other. Laurence works for the oppressive government forces, while Theo takes on his father's mantle and actively defies the rules by painting on any public surface he can find. Teaming up with fellow rebel, Elia (Marion Cotillard), Theo sets about decorating the city, and slowly falling in love with Elia. But with government minions everywhere they are soon in big trouble, leading to a tense finale to director Alexander Aja's all-consuming drama.

The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, ...

Sonny
Sonny DVD  (2002) Widescreen; Subtitled

Furia review
DVD $6.35
Nicholas Cage's directorial debut SONNY is the story of a young man (James Franco) who returns to the life he left behind in New Orleans after a brief stint in the Army. That life, provided by his mother Jewel (Brenda Blethyn), is one of small-time prostitution: mom is a madam, and Sonny has been in the brothel all his life. His brief excursion into the broader world makes Sonny want a different life, but he finds that his old habits--as well as the pull of young call girl Carol (Mena Suvari), and the bond with his mother's companion Henry (Harry Dean Stanton)--make leaving nearly impossible. For his first shot at directing, Cage chose a particularly gritty, knotted story in SONNY. Barry Markowitz's rich cinematography is nearly tactile, and Cage makes the interesting choice of having the colorful (in more ways than one) city of New Orleans mostly push through the edges of the movie, which is primarily shot in close-up. Those tight shots reveal the simmering rage in Franco's character, as well as the strange Oedipal twist of the hustling son who tries to please his mother by having sex with other women. Sonny. Meet Sonny and his mother Jewel. Sonny has returned from the Army to his mother's loving arms, to ...
