Does Anybody Know I'm Here?: Vietnam Through the Eyes of Black America 1962-1972 CD (2005)
Resurrection CD music As much a penetrating and painful lesson in American history as it is a fantastic set of vintage, obscure soul, Does Anybody Know I'm Here? Vietnam Through the Eyes of Black America 62-72 -- the follow-up to Kent's superb A Soldier's Sad Story -- documents a very different dimension of antiwar protest music: Edwin Starr's classic "War" aside, the mainstream antiwar canon comprises songs written and performed almost entirely by white folkies (Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, et al.), but the African-American response was just as potent and provocative, with an underlying sense of hopelessness and disenfranchisement that speaks volumes about the mindset of the black counterculture as war raged not only in Southeast Asia but also in places like Detroit and Watts. Ranging from the mournful soul of Marvin Gaye's opening "Soldier's Plea" to the blistering funk of Funkadelic's closing "March to the Witch's Castle," the set spans not only musical styles but also varying shades of polemical intensity -- some cuts are confrontational and direct, others elegiac and allegorical, but all burn with the emotional honesty and complexity that are the hallmarks of soul music at its finest. Other highlights include the Dells' title cut, Archie Bell & the Drells' "A Soldier's Prayer," and the Impressions' "Don't Cry My Love." ~ Jason Ankeny
Here is another CD of prime cuts that explore aspects of the Vietnam war. Many of the biggest names in '60s and '70s soul offer personal and pointed views. This is consistently as good as the first volume in every department, and contains many tracks tha
Performers include: Marvin Gaye, Masters Of Houston, William Bell, Dells, Funkadelic, Martha Reeves, Impressions and more.

Give Em' as Little as You Can CD (2009)
Resurrection buy CD music The idiosyncratic (read eccentric) soulman Swamp Dogg, responsible for such psychedelic funk classics as TOTAL DESTRUCTION TO YOUR MIND and RAT ON! (voted as some of the worst album art of all time!), is back to his old tricks with an all-covers album, a self-styled "tribute to rock 'n' roll" called GIVE 'EM AS LITTLE AS YOU CAN. Novelty factor aside, the album is actually a good one, roughly similar in style to the current Daptone label neo-soul craze. With his loose, funky band in tow, Dogg puts his highly personal stamp on such rock-&-rollclassics as "Johnny B. Goode," "Great Balls Of Fire," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," a psychedelic-heavy "Satisfaction" that wouldn't be out of place on a Funkadelic album, and a reprise of his great 1970 swamp funk hit, "Total Destruction To Your Mind." If you heard this set in a club, you'd probably think it was a pretty memorable night out.
