Based on characters created by Alex Raymond for his long-running King Features comic strip.
Previous Flash Gordon films include: "Spaceship to the Unknown" (1936); "The Deadly Ray from Mars" (1938; aka "Flash Gordon: Mars Attacks the World"); and "Purple Death from Outer Space" (1940). All three of these features were edited versions of longer serials released by Universal the same year. The serials are, respectively, "Flash Gordon" (1936), "Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars" (1938), and "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" (1940). Former Olympic swimmer Buster Crabbe played Flash Gordon in all of these early incarnations. In 1974 a soft-core parody of the Gordon films was released, entitled "Flesh Gordon". And Filmation Studios produced an animated version, "Flash Gordon to Save the Earth", in 1990. Flash Gordon Reviews: "...A guilty pleasure, thanks to Danilo Donati's great sets..."
-- Mike Clark, USA Today "...It all balances out as a sort of WIZARD OF OZ adventure experience..."

Flash Gordon Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Flash has more than just Flash This is a space opera that doesn't take itself as seriously as the stupid Star Wars saga. Where Star Wars is essentially a corny kiddy show, Flash is cool, campy, and infused and enthused with a rollicking rock soundtrack created by Queen. The art design of this film is beautiful beyond description, and Max Von Sydow's malevolent presence as the imperial tyrant, Ming the Merciless, is inspired in its sense of menacing fun as Flash attempts to "save every one of us." Vivid color scenes and great acting A great space adventure for the whole family and one that the older members will enjoy as well remembering its beginning in the 1930's as a saturday morning movie serial in black and white. Submitted by James (Dowagiac, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Flash saves the Universe. Flash Gordon is a spectacular heroic driven movie that takes you to that next dimension. The movie of course has Queen's compositional pieces which make you so hype that you just have to sing a long. Flash of course is a hero throught the whole movie and the whole idea is the concept that "good will triumph over evil(Emperor Ming)". If you wanted to take a step into that next galaxy filled with heroes, villains, and a serious soundtrack then Flash Gordon is open to your viewing. If the movie doesn't get to you, the songs will. Flash Gordon film
$12.85 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar live action fare and breezes by with more than a couple of inventive set pieces, as well as some excellent comic dialogue.

| | Andrew Bird Noble Beast CDs (2009) Bonus CD; Deluxe Edition
Flash Gordon video
$22.39 A more organic and subdued outing than its predecessor, ARMCHAIR APOCRYPHA, 2009's NOBLE BEAST finds singer/violinist/guitarist Andrew Bird further refining his elegant, erudite brand of indie-pop. From the breezy, lilting opener "Oh No" to the wistful, strings-only "On Ho," the Chicagoan performer wanders purposefully through his own strange musical landscape, stopping off for fascinating moments such as the chiming "Fitz & Dizzyspells" and the percussive "Not a Robot, But a Ghost." Although Bird's lit-major lyrics and dynamic, classically-minded arrangements may scare off listeners looking for more immediate thrills, those who allow BEAST to work its magic will be happily entranced by its considerable charms.
Released in 2007, Armchair Apocrypha proved that hyper-literate singer/songwriter, genre-bending violin player, and peerless whistler Andrew Bird had found the perfect middle ground between his increasingly austere solo sets and the full-band grandeur of his days with the Bowl of Fire, a strategy he repeats with similar results on Noble Beast, his fifth full-length solo offering and second collection for the Mississippi-based Fat Possum label. Bird, a classically trained violinist since the age of four, has skillfully integrated nearly everything with strings on it into his repertoire since his conversion from the Weill and Brecht-heavy days of Music of Hair, Thrills, and Oh! The Grandeur to the semi-mainstream indie pop of The Swimming Hour, but it's his seemingly limitless capacity for manipulation of the violin that dominates Noble Beast. Opening cut "Oh No," a track that Bird began releasing sketches of months before the album's street date, may be his most successful foray into the murky world of the potentially commercial pop song yet, boasting a chorus that points directly at the Shins while maintaining the artistic integrity of the loop-happy, meticulous craftsman who fans have been watching evolve since 2003's Weather Systems. | | Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok - Vol. 7: End Of Days DVD (2003)
Flash Gordon review
$20.15 Norse mythology forms the basis of this mystery anime series based on Sakura Kinoshita's hit manga MYTHICAL DETECTIVE LOKI RAGNAROK, directed by Hiroshi Watanabe (SLAYERS, ORPHEN) and animated by the acclaimed Studio DEEN (GETBACKERS, COWBOY BEBOP). The anime centers on the Norse trickster god, Loki, who has been stripped of his powers, trapped inside the body of a child, and banished to live among humans by none other than the king of gods himself, Odin. With the help of his faithful manservant, Yamino, and a mystery-obsessed teenaged schoolgirl, Mayura, the pint-sized Loki runs an earthly detective agency specializing in paranormal cases à la THE X-FILES--all the while searching for the meaning of his own exile and dodging the vengeful gods Odin has dispatched to kill him. Rendered in a muted palette perfectly suited to its moody subject matter, the mystery anime unfolds at a leisurely but suspenseful pace that emphasizes atmosphere over action. This volume concludes the mystery anime series with episodes 24-26.
