| | Eddie Palmieri La Perfecta II CD (2002)
Yonkers Death album
$7.95 LA PERFECTA II was nominated for the 2003 Latin Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album.
Innovative Latin jazz pianist Eddie Palmieri returns to the music of his classic '60s ensemble La Perfecta on La Perfecta II. After disbanding La Perfecta in 1968 due to financial difficulties and later the death of trombonist/partner Barry Rogers in 1991, Palmieri vowed to never again perform the music he made famous. However, presented with the diligent transcriptions of La Perfecta's recordings by trombonist Doug Beavers, Palmieri felt the time had come for this music to be heard anew. What a gift. This is classic salsa, charanga, and mambo performed by some of the finest musicians in the Latin and jazz idioms. The music has just as much fire and energy as the originals, but references the best of progressive modern jazz arranging. Beavers even arranged one of Rogers' solos (on "Tirandote Flores") for three trombones. Joining in are many longtime Palmieri collaborators, like trumpeter Brian Lynch and trombonist Conrad Herwig as well as saxophonist Mario Rivera and percussionist John Rodriguez Jr. This is music you can dance to that also features forward-thinking jazz soloing of the highest order. ~ Matt Collar

| | Darkthrone Sardonic Wrath CD (2005)
Yonkers Death music CDs
$12.89 Dark metal group Darkthrone leaves no stone unturned when it comes to literally and figuratively attempting to scare the listener. From the seminal and bloodcurdling atmosphere saturating "Order of the Ominous," guitarist Nocturno Culto and drummer Fenriz take the album down a long, dark demonic alley. From there they bash you over the head with a hellish metal assault on "Information Wants to Be Syndicated," only slowing down for the brief guitar solo prior to the minute mark. Imagine Metallica or Slipknot on high-speed dubbing and you might come close to envisioning what Darkthrone is capable of. The primal growls accompanying the lyrics makes it appealing to metal fans, but the beefy guitar riffs are classic head-banging, devil-horned salute to metal ŕ la Black Sabbath. They rev their metal engine more on the quasi-rockabilly-meets-Motörhead ...

$29.35 VILE is Cannibal Corpse's first record with singer George Fisher, who replaced Chris Barnes.
The Japanese edition of Cannibal Corpse's VILE comes with one bonus cut.
Death metal wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Buffalo's Cannibal Corpse, one of the most musically brutal and lyrically extreme metal acts ever. The band's 1996 album, VILE--a landmark in the genre, as it was the first death metal album to hit the Billboard charts--gets the deluxe reissue treatment here in celebration of Metal Blade Records' 25th anniversary. In addition to the digitally remastered original album--which, decades later, still shocks with its pummeling ...
