Assignment Underwater - Volume 1 review
$14.75 In this funny documentary exploring the many talents of porn star Ron Jeremy, whose stout physical build and hairy back earned him the nickname The Hedgehog, director Scott J. Gill explores the actor from every possible angle while carefully avoiding hard core content. Bubbling with personality, Jeremy is extroverted and perverted, he loves attention of any kind, and he boasts a bold sexual aptitude (which viewers of his movies can certainly assert). Having starred in hundreds of films ranging from the campy THREE FOXES AND A DWEEB (which he directed, casting himself in the role of a professor whose students are especially eager to learn) to the trashy SNATCH MASTERS series (Jeremy starred in parts 9 through 12), this porn star has certainly been around the block. However, PORN STAR is not all breathy bedroom scenes, nor is it laugh-out-loud comedy. The documentary reveals a more human, lonely, vulnerable side of Jeremy that may make viewers reconsider the idea that the porn industry is all fun and games. In fact, maintaining such a prolific career has not been easy for Jeremy, and has taken ...

| | Murder City Devils - The End: Final Show Halloween 2001 DVD (2001)
Assignment Underwater - Volume 1 film
$7.15 Formed in the late 1990s, the Murder City Devils combined rough punk vocals with clean pop production under a basic rock & roll formula. The group united lead vocalist Spencer Moody, guitarist Dan Galluci, and bassist Derek Fudesko with a group of rotating players over the next few years. In 2001, the band decided to split, and gave their fans a final concert farewell at the Showbox theatre in Seattle on Halloween night. In addition to Moody, Galluci, and Fudesko (who would go on to find success with Pretty Girls Make Graves), the lineup consisted of Nate Manny on guitars and vocals, Nick Dewitt on keyboard, and Coady Willis on drums. THE END: FINAL SHOW HALLOWEEN 2001 documents this final hoorah and includes 18 songs from throughout the band's relatively short-lived, but successful career. Songs include "Rum to Whiskey," "I Drink the Wine," and the popular hit "Dance Hall Music" from the band's 1997 self-titled debut album.
This DVD includes the Murder ...
| | Bridge Of San Luis Rey DVD (2005) Widescreen; Subtitled
Assignment Underwater - Volume 1 review
$20.29 Author Thornton Wilder won the Pulitzer Prize for his second novel, THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY, which was originally published in 1927. Wilder passed away in 1975, but if he were still alive he'd surely be surprised and delighted to learn that the novel has been brought to the screen for a third time. Director Mary McGuckian follows in the footsteps of Charles Brabin, who constructed an Oscar-winning silent movie around Wilder's words in 1929; and Rowland V. Lee, whose version appeared in theaters during 1944. For her interpretation, McGuckian assembles an all-star cast, which includes Robert De Niro, Kathy Bates, Harvey Keitel, and Gabriel Byrne.
Set in Peru during the 1740s, McGuckian's film tells the tale of an ill-fated train journey that came to a tragic end as a rickety rope suspension bridge collapsed beneath its weight in the Peruvian mountains. The story of the passengers aboard the train is told in flashback via the recollections of a priest, Brother Juniper (Byrne), who has written a novel about the accident. Juniper is on trial for heresy due to the affirmations contained in his book; he believes that God must have plucked these people from the earth for a divine reason. De Niro plays the Archbishop who is trying Juniper, while the fated passengers who slowly roll towards their destiny include The Marquesa (Bates), Uncle Pio (Keitel), The Viceroy of Peru (F. Murray Abraham), Camila Villegas (Pilar Lopez de Ayala), and Pepita (Adriana ...
