In this tale of love, loss, and faith, Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci seek redemption down south through the power of the blues and the transcendence of an unlikely friendship. Justin Timberlake costar. Director Craig Brewer follows up his unexpectedly well-received pimp drama, HUSTLE AND FLOW, with this stylish tale of the unlikely connections that are forged when a lost soul attempts to cure a young nymphomaniac of her wicked ways. Set deep down south in a small Tennessee town, the film is titled after and largely driven by the force of blues music. Pulsating with color and bold cinematography, the story forms a visual counterpart to a blues ballad. When divorced ex-musician Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson) finds Rae (Christina Ricci) badly beaten by the side of the road, he brings her to his house and chains her to his radiator. Rae has been a wreck since her boyfriend (Justin Timberlake) went off to war, and has spent her time getting into fights and being taken advantage of by just about every man in town. Rae appears to be afflicted with a physical need for sex that no one can cure. As Lazarus watches Rae twitching with pain on his couch, he sees that the young woman's only chance at redemption is in his hands.
While the premise is outlandish, and the film opens itself up for much moral criticism, BLACK SNAKE MOAN has its merits. Deliciously colorful, the film aches with rhythm and dances visually with its subjects. Whether fetishizing Christina Ricci's emaciated body, or making Samuel L. Jackson look years older than he is in real life, the cameras do their job well. Both Ricci and Jackson offer strong performances that mark turning points in their careers. BLACK SNAKE MOAN seems less concerned with how it will be judged than with embodying the sexuality and passion of blues music. No matter how many viewers the film may offend, it succeeds in creating a world that vibrates with desire and raw energy. Theatrical Release: March 2, 2007 Black Snake Moan Reviews: 3 stars out of 4 -- "The film is carried to significant degree by Samuel L. Jackson....The new lean/mean Ricci may remind you of Susan Sarandon."-- Mike Clark, USA Today 4 stars out of 5 -- "Sweaty, dirty and grimy it may be, just like the music that powers it, but underlying BLACK SNAKE MOAN is a rather sweet story."-- James Mottram, Ultimate DVD "[Ricci is] the white-hot focal point of Brewster's loud, brash, encompassing vision of the soul's dark night survived, peering into the dawn."-- Nathan Lee, Film Comment "The blues here plays the role of an elemental force that can summon our deepest fears and rankest desires....[A] provocative picture..."-- Glenn Kenny, Premiere "[I]t's a film filled with sly pleasures....It marks Brewer as a much more interesting filmmaker..."-- Ray Greene, Box Office Black Snake Moan | List Price | $29.99 (You save $6.04) | | Studio | Paramount Home Entertainment | | Orig Year | 2007 | | All Time Sales Rank | 46841 | | CD Universe Part number | 7434968 | | Catalog number | 130040 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jun 26, 2007 | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | for strong sexual content, language, some violence and drug use. | | Running Time | 115 Minutes | | Additional Info | Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled | | Movie Details | Color; Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled |
Black Snake Moan Movie Review Play it again Sam This movie is not for everyone, that's for sure. For those who can accept life as it really is and can be, it's fantastic. Ricci should have won an award and Sam Jackson is like always having an award around. He's great in this film as he always is. I can see how the picture on the DVD box would turn a lot of people off and those people need to open their minds and see a great film. Impressive So I rented this movie not really knowing what I was getting into. Must say after it was over, I loved it! It wasn't at all what I expected & found myself intrigued with the storyline. Christina Ricci was brillant once again, loved Samuel L. Jacksons characters & am loving the movie choices of Justin Timberlake. I think this movie really hit home as in people having their own issues & finding people who you would at least expect to help you get to where you need to be. I would reccomend this movie to everyone, but watc h with an open mind & be surprised! Submitted by lw (Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Surprisingly a really good movie I wasn't sure what to think of this with title being strange, but at the end I found I really liked the movie. I would recommend it. Christina Ritchie reminds me of Resse Witherspoon in "Freeway." This movie makes me file like I'm down South amongst the hicks. Good movie! I'd buy this film, because Christina Riccis HOT!!! Anyway's,I liked the movie alright.I did think it was a bit racist though at times. What with the comparison's to the private sizes. Also I think us white people should get a white snake moan, and have a white guy do it with a black chick. After all it is what they did on this film, only in opposite, and that shouldn't bother black people at all right.
Anyway's in the end it had a alright ending, although this movie remind's me of the Keeper with Asia argento alot.Other than that,I'm gonna buy me a copy,I mean Christina Ricci half naked in chain's how can you go wrong??? $23.95 The events of September 11 left an indelible mark on most Americans, and certainly on those in the New York City area. Yet as fresh as the images seem, it's easy to forget the actual grit, sacrifice, and uncertainty of that day. Director Oliver Stone captures the essence of 9/11 by focusing on the true story of two Port Authority Police Department officers who were trapped beneath the wreckage of the fallen World Trade Center.
Veteran officer Sergeant John McLoughlin (Nicholas Cage) and his team, including rookie Will Jimeno (Michael Pena) are gathering equipment to enter the burning Twin Towers when the concourse comes crashing down around them. Twenty feet below the surface, pinned by debris and unable to reach anyone by radio, the officers must rely on their own will--and on each other--to survive. ...

Black Snake Moan movie DVD
$29.79 It's been a long, strange trip since Darren Aronofsky last invited viewers into his cinematic world--six years in fact--but THE FOUNTAIN is sure to enchant, beguile, and inspire intense debate among his patient fans. During the frustrating gap since 2000's REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, Aronofsky has struggled to bring THE FOUNTAIN to the screen, principally because leading man Brad Pitt dropped out of the project. The complex tale is split into three different time periods, beginning in the 16th century, when a conquistador named Tomas (Hugh Jackman) strives to find the Tree of Life. The second part of the story finds Jackman playing a Buddha-like character who zips through outer space and dreams of a woman named Izzi (Rachel Weisz). And the third part, which consumes most of the film's screen time, is set in the present day and sees Jackman playing a doctor ...
