Our Man In Paris+2
$15.29 Personnel: Robben Ford (vocals, guitar); Neal Evans (Hammond b-3 organ); Toss Panos (drums). Audio Mixer: John Paterno. Photographer: George Wells. Some of guitarist Robben Ford's weaknesses, such as song composition and vocals, are rectified or at least made less obvious, on this predominantly live release. On his fourth release for the Concord label, Ford is able to cherrypick better material from inconsistent albums, unearth choice covers, and generally broaden the music with his fiery playing. This, along with the natural energy generated by the stage environment, focuses attention on the guitarist's skills as a creative six-string bluesman who expands the narrow confines of the genre by adding soul and jazz influences. He kicks off the ...

| | Barry Manilow Here At The Mayflower CD (2001)
Our Man In Paris+2
$9.79 1st Rec.To Feat.All Orig.Mani- Low Songs In More Than 15 Year
Personnel includes: Barry Manilow (vocals, arranger, various instruments); Ken Berry (guitar); Dave Koz (alto & tenor saxophones); Bill Liston, Larry Williams (reeds); Gary Grant, Jerry Hey (trumpet); Andrew Martin (trombone); Kenny O'Brien (synthesizer, percussion); Vince Colaiuta (drums); Ron Dante, Yvonne Williams, Clydene Jackson (background vocals). Recorded at Peppertree Studios, Palm Springs; Ignited Now Studios, Woodland Hills; and O'Henry Sound Studios, Burbank, California. Barry Manilow fans are a very loyal breed, but even if you haven't been a big fan before, you might still find you enjoy this 2001 release from the longtime artist. Here at the Mayflower is what is called a concept album -- each of the 16 tracks from this offering is listed in another apartment in the Mayflower building, such as "Apartment 6C: I Miss You," "Apartment 2G: I Hear Music Playing," and "Apartment 3E: Border Train." The music on Here at the Mayflower combines several of the styles that Manilow is known for using, including dance-pop, Latin, jazz, and even Broadway melody. These numbers are piano-driven, all composed in part or in whole by Manilow. Many of the songs carry an emotional impact, whether ...

| | Marc Cary Abstrakt/Blak CD (2006)
Our Man In Paris+2
$10.75 Personnel: Langston Hughes, Ron Sutton (alto saxophone); Tarus Mateen (bass instrument). Additional personnel: Shon Miller. Keyboardist Marc Cary has teamed up with vocalist Shon "Chance" Miller for a collaboration dubbed the XR Project. Mixing Cary's acoustic piano, Fender Rhodes, and synthesizer sounds with Chance's hip-hop, rap, and contemporary R&B trappings, the two explore hard funk, space drift, superimposed poetry, prose, and hard-edged dance music. The excellent bassist Tarus Mateen is on the date, but there is no live drummer credited. On a limited level the group sound succeeds, especially for the instrumental numbers. "Pocket Lint" is involved, more pure musically and jammin'. A distinct Afro-Latin feel and Ron Sutton's alto sax inform the M-Base-derived "Across 125th." The modal piano of Cary on "All I Ever Wanted" sets up the closest thing to a pop song. "This Is" is more about what this is not or, according to the lyrics, ...
