| | Pink Martini Sympathique CD (1997)
Sham'At Hayati music CDs
$13.89 The first album by Portland, Oregon's tongue in cheek lounge pop orchestra Pink Martini, SYMPATHIQUE, was originally released in 1997 on the band's own Heinz label. Although the album contains two originals by singer China Forbes and pianist Thomas Lauderdale, the title track and "Lullaby," the bulk of the album's 12 songs consists of new arrangements of loungy favorites like "Never On Sunday," "Que Sera Sera," "Brazil," and "Song of the Black Lizard," taken from the soundtrack of a Japanese cult film. Unlike contemporaries such as Combustible Edison, Pink Martini had the musical chops and heartfelt love of the style to keep the album from descending into snarky kitsch. In 2009, Heinz Records released the first ever vinyl edition of the album.
Recorded at Stiles Recording Studio, Portland, Oregon, from December 1996 to April 1997.
Pink Martini: China Forbes, Thomas Lauderdale.
Personnel: China Forbes (vocals); Dan Faehnle (guitar); Aaron Meyer ...

| | Yasmin Levy Mano Suave CD (2007)
Sham'At Hayati CD music
$13.49 Yasmin Levy has proved herself to be the leading exponent of Ladino song (Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews whose roots are in Spain). However, her previous albums have never quite captured her potential. This time, though, she's hit the spot, finding both the intensity of performance and delicacy of arrangement that's been her hallmark. The style is a mix of influences that blend perfectly -- listen carefully and you can hear traces of flamenco nestled alongside Middle Eastern music, with influences from around the Mediterranean liberally scattered across the sound. Her voice is in glorious form, with a depth of purity that illustrates just how she's matured and fully grown into her ability. Her own band, now well bedded-in, is superb and sympathetic, but there ...
| | Music Of Indonesia 5: Betawi & Sudanese Music Of The North Coast Of Java - Topeng Betawi, Tanjidor, Ajeng CD (1994)
Sham'At Hayati music CDs
$14.65 Java's north coast is a cultural jumble even by Indonesian standards. In the 20th century waves of Europeans, Javanese and Sundanese overtook a highly multi-ethnic group that had earlier merged into so-called Batavians. Three pieces from a village theater form called Topeng Betawi begin this volume. The ensemble features many of the same gongs and tuned bronze xylophones used in Javanese gamelan, as well as the rebab (local violin) and female singer that cover many of the melodies in both styles. Topeng Betawi music ranges between quietly menacing passages and frenzied, metallic clangor.
Four remarkable Tanjidor pieces use the instruments of Dutch military bands, horns, fiddles, clarinet, and their Javanese variants. This is Betawi music style mostly free from the Sundanese ...

Sham'At Hayati music CDs
$12.65 EastWave Radio was first formed by singer & guitarist Dave Gagne in 2006. Carrying on the reggae traditions of his musician parents, he formed his own band fusing roots reggae with more contemporary influences like Sublime, 311, The Police and The Clash. Through 2006 and '07, EastWave Radio was a revolving cast of players, but in early 2008 the lineup solidified with drummer 'Steady' Eddie Dickhaut and ...
