(1 Customer Review)
On 'How Long' more great studio musicians appeared as guests, in particular drummer-maestro Terry Bozzio, Pat Torpey (of Mr Big), bassist Jimmy Haslip, ex Kansas vocalist John Elefante, Toto's Bobby Kimball and Great White associates Michael Lardie and Wyn Davis (who also produced the album). Songwriters would include, among others, AOR luminaries such as: Jeff Paris, Mark Spiro, Bill Trudell and Brett Walker. As of today 'How Long' is still regarded as one of the highest examples of hi-tech AOR / West Coast, with a superb production and immaculate songwriting. During the years it became more and more of a collector's item and the prices paid on E-bay exceeded 80 dollars. This 2007 reissue comes completely remastered and adds two unreleased bonus songs which were recorded during the original sessions and the first fruit of a reunion between Michael, Moon Calhoun and songwriter Jeff Paris entitled 'Wheelchair.' How Long music CDs
$14.65 Yet another album by German guitar superstar Axel Rudi Pell, Mystica delivers...well, pretty much what every previous Axel Rudi Pell album has delivered. Pell is comfortable enough with his impressive chops that he doesn't have to do the whole God of the Fretboard routine that so many European metal guitarists are saddled with, so his albums are refreshingly light on the pyrotechnics. He does have a fondness for the pretentiously ...

How Long music CDs
$20.99 Continuing the Ozit label's so-admirable excavation of the Way We Live/Tractor archives, John Peel Bought Us Studio Gear & a PA digs back into the band's earliest recordings to resuscitate the demo tape that first brought them to John Peel's attention -- he signed the duo to his Dandelion label, and remained a staunch supporter throughout the remainder of his life. It is not hard to understand why. The sound quality across these eight songs does leave something to be desired, but Tractor's essential charm shines through regardless, shifting effortlessly from dreamy pastoral folk (the shockingly brief "Angle") to almost Sabbath-tainted guitar rock ("King Dick II"), from fuzz-packed pop ("Storm") to the Whole Lotta Zeppelin riffing of "Willow." These same eight tracks would make it onto the band's A Candle for Judith debut album, but the freshness that feeds out of the demos renders it an altogether different listening experience. The demos are followed by a "2006 remix" of something called "John Peel's 13 Bar Boogie," in which snatches of the DJ's speech are mixed with, indeed, a boogie riff; normal service is then resumed with an accounting of four Tractor singles, opening with the unabashed pop of "Stoney Glory," and traveling through to the superlative "Average Man's Hero." An excellent ...
| | Julie Dexter & Khari Simmons Moon Bossa CD (2006) Digipak
How Long songs
$9.17 Time has been much kinder to the '70s than the American critics who reviewed music back then. Many of the '70s artists who are now considered classic and highly influential received a ton of negative reviews in their day, and that includes everyone from Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Chic to ABBA. If a '70s artist didn't make a lot of critics' annual Top Ten lists at the end of 1976 or 1977, that artist might be influencing an abundance of younger artists in the 21st century -- and there is no shortage of '70s worship to be found on this 2007 release by British singer Julie Dexter and Atlanta bassist Khari Simmons. The latter has spent much time backing neo-soulstress India.Arie, but the soul that prevails on Moon Bossa doesn't have Arie's hip-hop leanings. Instead, this pleasing disc favors sleek, '70s-style quiet storm with jazz and Brazilian overtones; the overall outlook is something along the lines of Phyllis Hyman, Minnie Riperton, Angela Bofill or Randy Crawford meeting up with Ivan Lins or Milton Nascimento (minus the lyrics in Portuguese). There is some acknowledgement of the '60s as well (one of the tracks is Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Wave"), and the sweet-voiced Dexter's performance of Basia's 1987 hit "Promises" points to the fact that Moon Bossa is not devoid of post-'70s influences. Further, Simmons' remixes of several of the tunes are mindful of the club-oriented downtempo and chillout music of the '90s and ...
