Full title: Motel Lovers: Southern Soul From The Chitlin' Circuit. A dazzling 2008 compilation of contemporary Southern Soul. This collection features Southern superstars, who attract thousands of black families with folding lounge chairs and plastic coolers to their regular Blues picnics and outdoor concerts in the city parks of Jackson, Mississippi or Birmingham, Alabama, They are hit makers, whose songs are played day in, and day out by local Blues stations. Who cares if these names are scarcely recognized by a handful of people north of the Mason-Dixon Line? Who cares if they are marginalized as so-called 'Chitlin' Circuit' phenomena by the media? Their Southern Soul is more than just a regional variation of Rhythm 'N' Blues. Much more: their music, like no other, represents the psyche of the Black American South: somewhere between Jesus and Stagger Lee, Baptist church services and sex, the juke joint and the motel. Features cuts from Bobby Rush, Sir Charles Jones, Peggy Scott-Adams, Marvin Sease and many others. Shellshock. 2008. Motel Lovers Songs | 1. | Night Fishin' - Bobby Rush |

Motel Lovers album
$9.69 Trumpeter/cornet player Ruby Braff began performing traditional jazz in the Boston area in the 1940s and over 50 years later shows no signs of slowing down. In 2001 he released the lovely I Hear Music and in 2002 followed it with the eclectic Variety Is the Spice of Braff. While the earlier effort featured a first-rate quintet, the latter is made up of larger groups in multiple settings. The overall approach, however, is similar: great musicians, classic tunes, and nicely prepared arrangements. The set begins with a trio of standards, "There's a Small Hotel," "Happiness Is Just a Thing Called Joe," and "Moments Like This," with bright arrangements by Tommy Newsom. Newsom also plays tenor sax on the album, while Braff alumni Bucky Pizzarelli handles most of the guitar work. What continues to make standards like "Crazy Rhythm" and "I Ain't Got Nobody" so lively is the amount of feeling Braff and his fellow players inject into the music. ...
| | Rilo Kiley More Adventurous CD (2004)
Motel Lovers CD music
$9.99 Mellotron and Moog add a melancholy air to the heartbreak-defining "Does He Love You?," and "I Never" hints at Rilo Kiley's country side via Lewis's aching, Loretta Lynn-like phrasing and the atmospheric blending of strings and pedal steel. This adventurous musical outing leaves room for Blake Sennett's lo-fi, solo acoustic tune "Ripchord," the Blondie-esque "Portions for Foxes," and "Love ...
| | Bert Williams Early Years 1901-1909 CD (2004)
Motel Lovers music CDs
$14.69 This remarkable CD has the first recordings of Bert Williams, the black comedian/actor/singer who was a pioneer in vaudeville and Broadway. The last of three Williams' CDs to be released by Archeophone but chronologically the first, this disc has extremely rare recordings (some taken from cylinders) that feature Williams during two different bursts of recording activity. The first 15 selections are from 1901 and include five numbers on which Williams teams up with his partner of the era, George Walker, and two selections that showcase Walker. These performances ...

Motel Lovers songs
$13.15 Nearly as wide as he was tall, Jimmy Rushing had a voice that could boom, and he more than held his own against the horn section during his long association with Count Basie's orchestra, and that Basie period (from the late '30s to the early '50s) has to be considered the peak of Rushing's recorded output. But that shouldn't stop anyone from checking out Rushing's later work, and this set, drawn from sessions held in New York in 1954, 1955, and 1957, is a perfect example ...
