| | Bullet For My Valentine Poison CD Bullet For My Valentine Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Welsh heavy-metal quartet Bullet for My Valentine began making serious headlines in the metal press in 2005, and with good reason. The band combines a vintage U.K. metal sound (think Iron Maiden and Judas Priest) with the ferocity of 21st-century metalcore and the emotional angst of emo. THE POISON, the band's punishing full-length debut, finds all these elements mixed to perfect measure via top-tier production. In addition to the relentless sonic attack, Bullet for My Valentine also filled THE POISON with solid songs, a factor that distinguishes them favorably from their legions of metal and screamo peers.
Deluxe Edition

| | Bullet For My Valentine Scream Aim Fire CD (2008)
Poison songs
$12.89 It's not all head-forward aggression, however, as "Hearts Burst Into Fire" flirts with emo and "Say Goodnight" glosses the classic power ballad with a fresh coat of paint. Despite that, the lasting impression they leave is the acrid scent of scorched eardrums courtesy of adrenalized tracks like the warp-speed "Last to Know" and "Ashes of the Innocent." With metal splintering into so many camps, it's good to hear an act just interested in playing it the way they remember it, only faster and harder.
Welsh traditionalists Bullet For My Valentine clearly get off on the classics. While they're sometimes lumped in with metalcore acts, they're much closer to old-school American thrashers from the '80s such as Metallica and Megadeth, and ...
| | Carol Stevens That Satin Doll/The Theme From Beyond The Fringe And All That Jazz CD (2000)
Poison album
$11.59 Recorded in 1957. Originally released on Atlantic (1256). Includes liner notes by Gary Kramer.
Recorded in 1962. Originally released on Atlantic (1403). Includes liner notes by Nat Hentoff.
This Collectables reissue combines two separate albums from the Atlantic vaults available on CD for the first time from vocalist Carol Stevens and actor/pianist Dudley Moore. Stevens' That Satin Doll was originally released in 1957, featuring the compositions and musical backing of pianist Phil Moore. Unfortunately the jazz personnel, including Herbie Mann, Barry Galbraith, and Don Elliott, were relegated to background status behind Stevens' mediocre vocals. While a competent pianist, Moore also did not cover any new ground on Plays the Theme From Beyond the Fringe and All That Jazz. Originally released in 1962, this is cocktail piano trio standards like "I Love Paris," "I Didn't Know What Time It Was," and "I Get a Kick out of You." Neither session is memorable; however, the Moore album is a curious piece from the talented comedic actor. ~ Al Campbell
Full title - That Satin Doll (Carol Stevens) & The Theme From 'Beyond The Fringe' & All That Jazz (Dudley Moore). Before gaining fame as an actor, Dudley Moore was a renowned sketch comedian and pianist. Here, he and his trio swing through some pop standards as well as the theme from 'Beyond the Fringe'. Carol Stevens was a society vocalist who developed into a sensitively profound Jazz stylist.
with Phil Moore's Music/Dudley Moore.

| | Dazzling Killmen Recuerda CD (1996)
Poison CD music
$13.25 RECUERDA is a compilation of singles and rarities. It contains a hidden track.
Recuerda gathers singles, a couple studio tracks, and a live set recorded by the Jesus Lizard's David William Sims, but it plays much more like a coherent album than a collection of songs. Dazzling Killmen was not your average hardcore band; three-fourths of the Killmen were schooled jazz musicians, which means they actually played their instruments rather than shredded them. The shredding was left to the vocals of guitarist Nick Sakes. It's hard to make out what Sakes is screaming about -- his voice sounds more like another instrument in the mix than a singing voice -- but that adds to, rather than detracts from, the thrilling ...

$10.05 Instant deal-breaker, stated in small print on the front: "New stereo recordings by the original artists." If that wasn't enough to turn you away, only ten songs are included on each of the three discs that make up this box set, which leaves at least an hour-and-a-half of empty space. To very little surprise, none of the new recordings are preferable to the original versions, but here's a short roll call of what you'll hear if you do happen to take the dangerous plunge: A Taste of Honey's "Boogie Oogie Oogie," Freda Payne's "Band of Gold," Badfinger's "Come and Get It," Stephen Bishop's "On and On," ...
