The lone score in the Dirty Harry series written by a composer other than Lalo Schifrin, The Enforcer enlists Jerry Fielding, who eschews both Schifrin's legacy "Harry's Theme" as well as the previous films' signature choral chanting in favor of funky, jazz-inspired themes very much in the spirit of the picture's 1976 theatrical release. Already skilled in the fine art of scoring violence and mayhem thanks to his work for filmmaker Sam Peckinpah, Fielding delivers a live-wire score that perfectly complements the two-fisted justice doled out by star Clint Eastwood's urban avenger. Still, themes like "Finale (Elegy for Inspector Moore)" capture real emotion beneath the tough-guy veneer. The Aleph label's 2007 release heralds The Enforcer's first-ever commercial release; the package includes liner notes by producer Nick Redman as well as co-star Tyne Daly. ~ Jason Ankeny

John Barry's best score for any James Bond movie -- including the best song ("We Have All the Time in the World") ever written for any movie in the series -- is reasonably well represented on this CD. Barry had already begun adding more diverse and complex orchestral pieces to his underscoring and greater lyricism to his songs with the preceding movie, You Only Live Twice, and he ...

$9.55 Jon Jenkins does superior, ambient keys, composing, and performing 11 tranceworld pieces. As Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Giles Reaves, Michael Stearns, Vidna Obmana, or Jeff Greinke would deliver, so Jenkins offers us a classic. Moody, spaced, subdued, tribal, introspective, relaxing, flowing, dream-imaged music abides within Flow. Peter Buffet and Tim Story stylings in piano portions are pleasantly evident. That Michael Shrieve-styled percussion effect appears here and there. Best comparisons on this CD would be Roach's Dreamtime Return crossed with Buffet's The Waiting. There resides a yearning and inner resolve in each track, coupled with understanding and depth of soul. Jenkins' work inspires and heals. David Helping, Jeff Pearce, and Howard Givens contribute ambient electric guitars on assorted tracks. ~ John W. Patterson
"Jon Jenkins has crafted an album deep along the Steve Roach-Brian Eno ambient axis, but Jenkins also has a melodic sensibility that lifts this music out of the drone zone. "Into A World Of Wonder" and the minimally epic "The Power/Washed Away" pulse with vaguely American Indian rhythms and the album's most potent melodies. ...
