| | Bim Sherman Need To Live CD (2002)
Linea De Oro songs
$17.45 Includes rare, previously unreleased, and alternate versions.
This is one of several retrospective collections planned in the wake of Bim Sherman's unexpected death from cancer in 2000. The Need to Live focuses on hard-to-find, alternative, and previously unreleased versions of singles and album tracks that Sherman recorded with producer Adrian Sherwood for the latter's On-U Sound label throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Though many of the song titles on this program will be familiar to fans of the singer and his label -- "Can't Take It Easy," "Haunting Ground," and "Run Them Away" are among the perennial favorites -- the arrangements featured here are surprising in many cases. "Be My Lighthouse" is a vocal cut on a rhythm originally recorded by Lee "Scratch" Perry with Dub Syndicate for his Time Boom X de Devil Dead album, while several other performances (notably the lovely "No Longer") are presented in acoustic settings without the benefit of drums, and this version of "Man Next Door" comes bolstered with sturdy, Tackhead-flavored accompaniment courtesy of Skip McDonald and Doug Wimbish. Sherman had much to recommend him as a singer, but his voice was not always reliable, a failing highlighted on a couple of this album's songs, most notably the gratingly out-of-tune "Memories." Overall, though, this album will fill in the cracks nicely for fans and offer a good introduction to newcomers. ~ Rick Anderson
Collection of rare, previously unreleased and alternative versions of ON-Usound Productions with personal extensive liner notes by Adrian Sherwood. Shara Nelson (Massive Attack) provides vocals on 1 track. Century 1800 Records.

Linea De Oro songs
$9.45 GREATEST HITS contains 12 hit songs and 5 newly recorded tracks.
Digitally remastered by Denny Purcell (Georgetown Masters, Inc., Nashville, Tennessee).
How does a guy without a gimmick establish a multi-album career successful enough to warrant a greatest-hits album in the market-based world of modern country music? Ask Kenny Chesney, whose GREATEST HITS nicely caps off the '90s portion of his output.
He's got no boot-scootin' two-steppers, no novelty tunes, and no neo-trad veneer. As this compilation shows, Chesney has always chosen to simply play it straight, offering tender, romantic ballads ("Me and You," "All I Need to Know") and uptempo tunes that merge country roots with a decided pop-rock sensibility ("She's Got It All," "Back Where I Come From"). His flexible, unmannered singing style effectively wraps itself around whatever emotion the tunes--generally written by a stable of Nashville heavyweights--might require.
Personnel includes: Kenny Chesney, Randy Chesney (vocals); B. James Lowry (acoustic, electric & 12-string guitars); Tim Hensley (acoustic guitar, banjo); ...
