Set in the late 1960s, TALK TO ME is based on the life on Washington D.C.-based radio DJ and social activist Ralph "Petey" Greene (played by Don Cheadle). The well-selected soundtrack perfectly reflects both the era and Greene's lively personality with top-notch funk and soul tracks, including the groove-laden "Hip Hug-Her" by Booker T. & the MG's and the joyous "Say It Loud I'm Black & I'm Proud" by James Brown. Talk To Me Soundtrack album
$12.79 "Whenever Whenever Whenever" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
For a brief moment in the mid-90s, Maxwell was his generation's Marvin Gaye. This live set, probably his finest moment on wax, features the bonus track "'Til The Cops Come Knockin'," as well as "The Lady Suite," "Gotta Get Closer," and five more.
Riding the wave of young turks delving into old-school soul that includes D'Angelo, Eryka Badu and Adriana Evans, Maxwell's URBAN HANG SUITE heralded the arrival of a balladeer who combined Al Green's seductiveness with Prince's sensuality. MTV UNPLUGGED shows off the live side of this young free spirit whose musical roots reach through the Quiet Storm into some pretty unlikely places. Throughout this EP, the arrangements are lush, the horns caress every groove and Maxwell's creamy falsetto ducks and feints through his own "Whenever Wherever Whatever" and "The Lady Suite." He also takes time to give props to Kate Bush with a crystalline reading of "This Woman's Work." Showing off a knack for the unorthodox, Maxwell closes out the festivities with a completely ...

Talk To Me Soundtrack songs
$13.79 Joe Magnarelli is a veteran of bands of led by Toshiko Akiyoshi, Ray Barretto, Lionel Hampton, Harry Connick, Jr., and others. While he recorded several earlier CDs for Criss Cross, this is his first release for a U.S. label. The talented trumpeter is joined by fellow New York based players, including baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan, plus a rhythm section that has worked together regularly, consisting of pianist David Hazeltine, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Kenny Washington. Magnarelli penned several of the songs for the sessions, including the easygoing bossa nova "The Village" and the warm tribute "Ballad for Barretto," honoring the Latin percussionist who died a short time after being recognized as an NEA Jazz Master in early 2006. His "Soul Sister" is a transparent reworking of "Body and Soul" as a spry waltz with a bit of a groove in the rhythm. Magnarelli adds a mute for the brisk treatment of the standard "You and the Night and the Music," omitting the piano and showcasing a terrific exchange between Smulyan and Kenny Washington. His warm, yet reserved playing in his laid-back arrangement of "Haunted ...
| | Glee The Music 1 Glee: The Music, Vol. 1 CD (2009) Original Soundtrack
Talk To Me Soundtrack album
$11.69 Like the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise, GLEE became more than a TV show when several of its songs cracked the Hot 100, including the number four hit "Don't Stop Believing." That song kicks off this soundtrack, the first in a series of albums cataloging the music performed by the show's cast. Not all GLEE members are created equal--some cast mates are far better actors than singers--but this soundtrack has enough star power to keep things trucking along, especially when powerhouse alto Lea Michele takes the wheel. She sounds fantastic throughout, whether she's holding her own during a duet with Broadway queen Kristen Chenoweth or covering the likes of Jordin Sparks, Avril Lavigne, and Queen. The soundtrack is mostly a vehicle for her voice, yet it also gives ample stage time to Matthew Morrison, who downplays his own Broadway career by rapping on two different tracks. Tuneful ...

| | Chris Isaak Baja Sessions CD (1996)
Talk To Me Soundtrack music CDs
$9.89 For all its lonesome balladry, BAJA SESSIONS sounds positively exultant after 1995's morose FOREVER BLUE. The title refers to the pastoral Mexican peninsula that gave Isaak the inspiration for this set of lush, glistening ballads. Lap steel guitars glide through songs whose sunny climate belies Isaak's sad-sack lyrical bent. Isaak plays down his neo-rockabilly side in favor of the romantic crooning that's made him an international hearthrob.
Rather than writing an entire album's worth of songs to fit this mood, Isaak picked several cover tunes as well as a couple selections from his own back catalog, and interpreted them in a manner concordant with the lazy, summer-vacation-feel of the recording. Isaak pays tribute to a primary influence on his version of Roy Orbison's "Only The Lonely," and brings his sad-surfer-boy feel to the Hawaiian-tinged pop chestnut "Sweet Leilani." On ...
