Unchained Melodies: Complete Recordings 1955-1978 songs
$18.49 It took a German recording team to enable trumpeter/arranger Randy Sandke to assemble this all-American, 12-piece ensemble for a panorama of New York-inspired tunes, recorded in the Big Apple in the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse as part of the 1999 JVC Jazz Festival. In doing so, he raided the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, as well as several independent history-minded players in the area, and emerged with a band that fires off the numbers with crisp virtuosity in any idiom called for. Thankfully, there is also more than enough gusto in the playing, due in no small part to the live festival recording situation. ...
| | Rachel Sweet Fool Around CD (1992) Reissue
Unchained Melodies: Complete Recordings 1955-1978 album
$9.99 (MP3 Available for Download) An unlikely member of the Stiff Records stable, Rachel Sweet was a brassy, big-voiced teenager from Akron, Ohio who nevertheless won over the very British, very punky label with her chutzpah and good taste in songs. This 1977 debut album--reissued and remastered in 2007--made a splash on both sides of the Atlantic, with a variety of pop styles suited to Sweet's emotive voice: there's countrified pop (Elvis Costello's "Stranger in the House"), updated Motown ("B-A-B-Y"), ...

| | The Rent Matt Sharp of Weezer Matt Sharp CD (2004)
Unchained Melodies: Complete Recordings 1955-1978 CD music
$10.79 When he was the bassist in Weezer, Matt Sharp was the extrovert in the band, acting as the foil for Rivers Cuomo's introverted on-stage persona. As the leader of the Rentals, Sharp kept the party going with the group's cheerful new wave/retro-rock, but after their second album stiffed in 1999, he disappeared from the spotlight. When he returned with his eponymous solo debut five years later, he was a different person, at least on record -- a sullen, somber, serious songwriter indulging in introspection and sadness. In short, it's his spin on Beck's Sea Change, a deliberately melancholy mood piece indebted to country-rock and '70s singer/songwriters, with all the songs exploring loss and grief. It's more lo-fi and more work than Sea Change, and it's also moodier: all the tempos are slow, the dynamics are hushed, the melodies are subtle, and the vocals are whispered, creating an insular feel that takes some work to penetrate. Even then, it's arguable whether it's worth the effort to unlock, since it not only takes a few spins for the songs to cut through the atmospherics and begin to catch hold, but it's almost a necessity for listeners to share the same heavy melancholy as Sharp for this to be rewarding. If they do, this is an album that's tailor-made for bad breakups and heartache, the soundtrack for wallowing in self-conscious sadness. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Former Weezer bassist and MTV Buzz Clip band The Rentals' mastermind Matt Sharp ended his four-year, self-imposed hiatus from the music business last summer, releasing the critically acclaimed "Puckett's Versus the Country Boy" EP on Portland-based indie In Music We Trust Records. After constant touring in support of the EP, Sharp is slated to release his self-titled, debut full-length May 18, 2004 on In Music We Trust Records.Hidden away in a small house deep in the countryside of Leipers Fork, TN, Matt removed himself to do some thinking, writing and recording for what evolved into "Puckett's Versus the Country Boy", and now the self-titled full-length.The sound of his solo work is a big departure from what he is most well known for. The enigmatic front man for The Rentals (Maverick Records) released the seminal lo-fi new wave album Return of The Rentals in 1995, which featured the modern rock radio smash, "Friends Of P.". The Rentals' sophomore-release, "Seven More Minutes", followed in 1999 and became an instant cult favorite with its glamorous affair of epic ballads and hedonistic celebrations. It was written and recorded in Barcelona and London. It also contained collaborations with some of Europe's most well known artists, such as Damon Albarn (Blur), Tim Wheeler (Ash), and countless others from Brit pop's royalty. The record was completed in a whirlwind ...
| | Quick Trash CD (2002)
Unchained Melodies: Complete Recordings 1955-1978 MP3 Album
$12.69 Quick Started out as a batch of songs Singer/songwriter/guitarist Charlie Muccigrosso began recording back in the spring of ’02. Disenchanted with the daunting task of putting together a band of capable musicians without having a product to peak their interest. Charlie decided to write and record the album himself. He spent about 8 months locked away in an underground bunker (aka basement studio). The record was completed by the winter of ’02 and Charlie started searching for musicians to complete the band. You see, this was never meant to be a solo project by any means. The first record Trash was recorded solely as a tool to attract musicians and spark some interest in this project. And that being its purpose, it has served its purpose well. Not long after the record was completed, Vic DeFlorio signed on for the head guitar duties. Charlie ...
