(1 Customer Review)
This DVD was recorded November 11, 2005 at the Higher Ground in Burlington, VT. It is a glimpse into what makes this hard-touring trio so special. Celebrating their 10th anniversary together, the telepathic interplay between guitarist and singer Luther Dickison, drummer and brother Cody Dickinson, and bassist Chris Chew is something to behold. Six hi-definition cameras beautiful capture this performance. The show was one of many the band did in support record, Electric Blue Watermelon. Bonus interviews are included. Recorded November 11, 2005 at the Higher Ground in Burlington, Vermont, KEEP ON MARCHIN' marks the first live concert release for this Grammy nominated southern trio. North Mississippi Allstars - Keep On Marchin' video
$10.09 Eric Sardinas is a good, even great, electric slide player, and his Dobro skills are equally as impressive. His band on Black Pearls, Paul Loranger on bass and Mike Dupke on drums, is also quite good. The songs, all written by Sardinas, sound good and rock hard, although you've heard all this said before. (Granted, blues feeds on recycled lyrics, and it is undoubtedly hard to find a new way to say "I've been down so long I'm gonna leave you.") The highlights here -- the cheerful pop-blues of "Big Red Line," the bluegrass-paced Dobro work on "Old Smyrm Road" -- come on songs that step a little bit outside the blues-boogie template. ~ Steve Leggett

North Mississippi Allstars - Keep On Marchin' DVD
$21.29 Shepherd's reverence for his musical roots are centerstage on this CD/DVD package featuring the guitarslinger with rhythm section of bassist Tommy Shannon and drumer Chris slayton performing with some of the greatest blues players of our time as well as lesser-known but historically significant bluesmen. Traveling to their hometowns to record everywhere from juke joints to front porches, from New Orleans to Kansas, Shepherd celebrates and becomes part of blues history.
More than a mere live album, this collection of impromptu performances, recorded at both established venues and in kitchens and on front porches throughout the American South, captures a rapidly vanishing generation of bluesmen and women singing and playing with the ...
| | Chris Duarte Blue Velocity CD (2007)
North Mississippi Allstars - Keep On Marchin' movie DVD
$13.65 Chris Duarte's name is nearly always mentioned alongside those of the late, great guitar gods Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. There is some validity to the comparison, as Duarte does specialize in that high-octane, lightning-bright, raw but intelligent brand of playing that Hendrix and Vaughan had so definitively put their names on, and he does quite often favor their tones and draw on their trademark licks. But those comparisons were only partially true even when Duarte emerged from Austin in the mid-'90s as a promising craftsman, and they're approaching irrelevancy now that he's working his way toward seasoned vet. Duarte has painstakingly absorbed his influences to develop his own signature style and gained his own coterie of fans, and Blue Velocity, Duarte's first release since 2003's Romp, is where it all comes together. With Dustin Sargent ...

$7.19 COCKFIGHTER: Warren Oates stars as Frank Mansfield, a small-town Georgia man who gets caught up in the illegal game of cockfighting and finds that his losses far outweigh his winnings. Cocky and belligerent, Frank loses his chance at winning the Cockfighter Of The Year medal to Jack Burke (Harry Dean Stanton) the night before a big tournament, when he challenges Burke to an off-the-record cockfight. Two years later, Frank is still struggling to win the award. To prove his seriousness, he has vowed never to speak again until he claims the medal. This puts an obvious strain on his relationship with Mary Elizabeth (Patricia Pearcy), who is contemplating marriage ...
