| | Luis Villegas Casa Villegas CD (2003)
Greatest Exitos music CDs
$15.35 An invitation to the musical home of this rising Latin guitarist brings the listener into a powerful ethnic experience full of fire, warmth and family. Offering various tastes of his hometown of East Los Angeles, Villegas starts with the playful musical bearhug "Bienvenidos" (which means "welcome") and an exposure to his plucky, bright style over a rolling groove and a simmering horn section. Albert Salas' piano and a host of percussionists keep the party hopping and it's easy to feel that we're "Entre Amigos" (a similarly feisty jam). Then we meet Villegas' wife, "Mujer Enamorada," whose tale is sung in Spanish by the raspy voiced Jose Garcia (with Villegas' plucky strings on the snappy harmonic lines). All Latin guitarists who capture the heart with a hurricane of sound eventually get around to a few intimate numbers that reveal the romance at the heart of things, and in Villegas' case, those are the dual guitar interlude "Dos Guitarras" and the gentle, loping ballad "Recuerdos De Jerez." Another one of these more intimate gems is fashioned into a lovely samba called "Brazilian Magic." The best tracks, however, are the festive ones that celebrate all the joys of percussion and flamenco-driven magic. ~ Jonathan Widran
This CD is the follow-up to Luis Villegas' successful label debut, "Spanish Kiss" (BAJ #538). Luis fuses together New Age and latin jazz, expanding his purely instrumental sound with the addition of two tracks that feature Spanish lyrics. Luis' music tra

$13.69 L. C. is originally from Cleveland, Ohio where his music roots run very deep. His father, a recorded singing artist himself, exposed the children from a young age to a great love and appreciation of music.L. C. began as a lead singer in the youth choir for the Olivet Baptist Church in Cleveland. He went on to perform at numerous talent shows with his group "The Mystique". He also had performances at the WHK Auditorium and Leo's Club, both in Cleveland. After arriving in Los Angeles, L. A production deal followed with the Wilder Brothers at their recording studio in West Los Angeles.L. C. worked on several projects with Clarence Avant and his Tabu Productions at the A&M Studios in Hollywood. Soon after, L. C. was signed with USA Records, headed by Danny Jordan and Martin Braude. | | George Carlin What Am I Doing In New Jersey? CD (1988)
Greatest Exitos CD music
$6.09 What Am I Doing in New Jersey was recorded in 1988, so naturally it tackles some of the events of the late Reagan administration. George Carlin sums up his essence on the track "Reagan's Gang, Church People, and American Values": "I'm the first to say its a great country, but its a strange culture!" He rants about preventative detainment, censorship, and the paradoxes of the Right to Life movement -- all of which is biting, but not very funny. Then, about seven minutes in, he gets started. Carlin protects no sacred cows, and quickly moves through cracks on bulimia, banning artificial sweeteners but not tobacco ("because a rat died!"), and other peculiar American quirks. George Carlin is at his best when assailing a culture that prioritizes corporate interests over the public good (for example, gun store owners getting lists of bad creditors but not convicted criminals) and consistently misuses the English language ...
