| | Coterie Aesthete CD Coterie Discography of CDs
When a band uses such high-school-vocabulary-list words as "coterie" and "aesthete" for their band name and debut album title, it would be expected that their target audience would consist of the sort of swots who remind the teacher that they forgot to assign the big reading list 90 seconds before the Friday afternoon bell rings. But based on the sound of Aesthete, Coterie are much more interested in the kids who race home text-messaging behind the wheel all the way, arriving just in time to catch the big Laguna Beach marathon: this is pure by-the-numbers alt-rock circa summer 2007 by a band that sounds so much like so many other bands that it actually becomes difficult to ascertain just who they're ripping off the most. They've got two singers, with lead guy Keith Conrad possessing the sort of blandly inoffensive emo-boy voice that makes him sound like every second band on Fueled by Ramen Records, and the other guy (oddly none of the four instrumentalists is credited with vocals) growling away in an even more anodyne post-hardcore bark. Underneath, the band proffer blandly efficient restructurings of deadeningly familiar alt-rock riffs and the whole thing is so ungodly boring that no one over the age of 16-and-a-half will likely be able to stay awake through all 13 songs. ~ Stewart Mason
Coterie: Keith Conrad (vocals); Kenneth Alexander, Evan White (guitar); Rory Mohon (bass instrument); Chris Desanto (drums).

| | U2 No Line On The Horizon CD (2009)
Aesthete songs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Enlisting its go-to production trio of Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite, the Irish quartet seems intent on crafting a quirkier companion piece to HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, and they succeed with restless tracks such as "Get on Your Boots," which sounds like "Vertigo" hijacked by T. Rex, and "Stand Up Comedy," a wiry number that lets the Edge cut loose with barbed guitar lines. Some of most striking songs on HORIZON are the ones that venture ...

Aesthete CD music
$6.09 This 1998 reissue contains 5 bonus tracks (including the previously
unreleased "White Christmas") not included on the original release.
John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty record, perfect for late nights by the fireside. The 1998 CD reissue adds five bonus tracks: "Jingle Bells," "White Christmas," "The Music is You," "Perhaps Love," and "Dreamland Express." ~ Rodney Batdorf

| | Best Of Merle Haggard, The CD (1972)
Aesthete music CDs
$6.59 A compelling argument can be made that Merle Haggard has been the most important country artist to emerge since the 1950s (Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings are his only true competition), and HAG: THE BEST OF MERLE HAGGARD supports that argument with 26 incontrovertible pieces of evidence. The only single-disc compilation to span the whole of Haggard's career (encompassing all of his many label changes), HAG contains the lion's share of the country legend's greatest hits, including "Branded Man," "Mama Tried," and "Okie from Muskogee," alongside duets with Johnny Cash and Willie ...

| | Baroness Grey Sigh In A Flower Husk CD (2007)
Aesthete album
$19.79 A Grey Sigh in a Flower Husk is a split EP pairing up two of Savannah, GA's most respected, early new millennium metal bands: meteoric upstarts Baroness and comparative local veterans Unpersons -- at a point when their career trajectories appear headed in somewhat opposite directions. For Baroness, the two songs featured here cap four years of activity and building acclaim for their Mastodon-meets-Neurosis-inspired progressive sludge-metal. Opener "Teiresias," in particular, supplies a promising glimpse ...
