| | Joe Deninzon Electric Blue CD (1998)
Un Poquito De Swing songs
$9.35 Jazz has given us some impressive violinists over the years (everyone from Joe Venuti, Stephane Grappelli and Stuff Smith to Jean-Luc Ponty and John Blake), but compared to saxophonists, trumpeters and pianists, violinists have been a very small minority in the jazz world. One of the few fusion violinists who came along in the 1990s, Joe Deninzon showed considerable promise on Electric Blue. This unpredictable jazz-rock effort demonstrated that while the Russian-born improviser had studied the history of jazz violin extensively, he refused to be shackled by that history. Though Ponty is a strong influence on Deninzon, it's obvious that he has also spent a lot of time listening to rock guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Steve Vai. Deninzon can be lyrical and charming, or he can be a forceful, in-your-face player who brings elements of hard rock guitar (distortion, feedback) to the electric violin. A musical rollercoaster, Electric Blue ranges from the poetic ("Oasis," "An Evening Nap in the Afternoon Sun") to the metallic ("Shock Therapy," "Bluzak"). The violinist's own compositions dominate the CD, although he also provides an unusually rock-influenced version of Thelonious Monk's "Well, You Needn't." Deninzon takes his share of chances on Electric Blue, and they pay ...

| | Carl Gustave Too Hard CD (2002)
Un Poquito De Swing CD music
$13.65 Carl Gustave is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer. His musical style is a melting pot of blues, jazz, reggae, rock and soul. When watching Gustave perform, audiences from around the world have been witness to an artist delivering his set with conviction and raw emotion. Gustave began his musical journey in Los Angeles,California where after high school he began performing his original music in clubs on the Hollywood strip and other venues around town. After his band split he began performing with other artists from the area both live and in the studio. Before returning to St Lucia he received A Peabody Award in the U.S. for the song "I Won't Do You No Wrong" which he wrote, sang, and played guitar on. This song was first aired on "The ABC After School Special"in 1998. He has performed or recorded with members of the "Chick Corea Band," Members of Tuesday Night Music Club, members of Don Henley Band(of Eagles fame),David Kitay, David and David, members of Kool and The Gang, members of Maze, as well as seasoned Blues veterans such as John Huston, Louissianna 'Guitar' Red, Coco Montoya, Bobby Picket, Leon Ruebenhold, and others. He has also performed or worked with all of the top local artists here in St. Lucia. Carl Gustave has been apart of the St. Lucia Jazz Festival for the last 4 years. He has performed at 3 different Jazz Launches in various acts, Jazz on the Square and Jazz in the South. This year he was featured in an article found in the inflight magazine of the Caribbean's largest airline carrier, Liat. And performed to a sold out venue in Antigua sponsored in part by another airline, Caribbean Star. A show in which he received rave reviews. This year at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival 2002,he performed two sets of original material. One was as an opening act for the group Envoge at a main stage performance. One reviewer writes "There's no doubting Gustave's talent. His smooth vocals and impressive skill at the electric guitar were equal to many of the international stars performing at this year's Jazz Festival and he deserved his place in the spotlight." This performance was filmed by BET for an episode of their series entitled "Jazz in the Sun," to be aired later this year. The second was as a warm-up act for the Legendary Phil UpChurch at St. Lucia's newest venue. He has also performed one of his original compositions on Main stage with the group "Sisterhood" at the 2000 St. Lucia Jazz Festival. In 1998, while performing at what was then "Snooty Agouti," Chic Corea's bass player and drummer heard what they described as "Notes of Emotion" spilling out on to the streets ...
