This Special Edition of MS. KELLY includes a free ringtone, mobile handset wallpaper, one digital song download, and an enhanced booklet. Personnel: Kelly Rowland (background vocals); Pamela Sixfin, David Angell (violin); Christopher Farrell, Kristin Wilkinson (viola); Anthony LaMarchina (cello); Craig Brockman (piano); J. "Lonny" Bereal (background vocals). Additional personnel: Eve, Snoop Dogg, Tank. Audio Mixers: Jason Goldstein; Jean-Marie Horvat; Andy Zulla; Phil Tan; Tony Maserati. Photographer: Mike Ruiz. Arranger: Soulshock. After the breakup of the phenomenally successful Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland kept a relatively low profile, at least compared to group-mate Beyonce, whose celebrity status as a solo artist cast a big shadow. Rowland cast some shadows of her own, however, with 2007's MS. KELLY, a wholly satisfying showcase for the singer's particular take on contemporary R&B. Cameos from Eve, Snoop Dogg, and Tank keep the energy high, but MS. KELLY is Rowland's show through and through. With equal attention to both thumping club tracks (the album's lead-off single "Like This") and smooth, downtempo balladry ("The Show"), this solo effort pushes Rowland into some well-deserved limelight. Kelly Rowland's second solo album was, at one point, due to be released in 2006, titled My Story. Before it was released, Rowland had a change of heart, deciding that the material was too ballad and midtempo-oriented, and she told interviewers that it "would have made people cry." So, she switched it up a little, sought out some different producers, and adjusted the album's makeup. Even without this knowledge, Ms. Kelly sounds like an album where Rowland is mostly sorting through some deeply personal relationship issues with a couple relatively lighthearted songs thrown in for variety. Unless close attention is paid to the drastic and fleeting shifts in subject matter, the conscious decision to release an album not completely sad/bitter/angry/regretful/at peace and autobiographical isn't completely apparent. The lyrics within the most personal songs are direct and specific, going beyond basic breakup material, so those who aren't going through something similar might have some difficulty connecting with them. All-around, the album does provide a stronger set of songs than 2002's Simply Deep. The material tends to be kind of insidious, rather than hitting you immediately or going through one ear and out the other, and it's significantly more R&B-oriented, as opposed to Simply Deep's adult alternative rock leanings. ~ Andy Kellman Kelly Rowland's second solo album was, at one point, due to be released in 2006, titled My Story. BETTER THE 2ND TIME AROUND Agreeably, her vocal chops aren't all that dazzling, but what more could you expect from the least talented member of Destiny's Child? Kelly Rowland came out this round, fighting. She gave it her best, if not pristine. All the songs are relateable and heart-driven. She's been through it and she'll tell you that and give advice at the same time. This CD is worth buying to witness the growth of Kelly Rowland. She has songs to dance to and songs to make love to. My favorite tracks are "Still In Love With My Ex" and "This Is Love", mostly because she sang them with emotion and conviction and their beautiful. She borrows a page from Brandy Norwood on the harmony-heavy "Better Without You" and turns the heat up a couple notches on "Work", overall, it's a very good effort from Kelly Rowland. In fact, a surprising effort. Keep up the good work, Kelly, and you'll get better in time. Submitted by uniquewoods69 (Orlando, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | R Kelly Double Up CD (2007)
MS. Kelly
$8.99 R. Kelly's appealing, staggeringly successful take on hip-hop-infused contemporary R&B has been founded in no small part on his ability to make explicitly sexual subject matter sound as smooth and seductive as an old-school overture from Al Green. DOUBLE UP (2007), Kelly's eighth studio release, finds him taking ever more risque ...
| | Rihanna Good Girl Gone Bad CD (2007)
MS. Kelly
$14.05 Personnel: Rihanna (vocals). Additional personnel: Jay-Z, Ne-Yo (rap vocals). The music of Barbados-born singer Rihanna--a breezy blend of hip-hop, commercial pop, and Caribbean flavors--made her a bona fide superstar before the age of 20. Given her immediate success, one had to wonder if Rihanna would be a flash in the pan, but her third album, 2007's GOOD GIRL GONE BAD, is a winner. Interestingly, Rihanna avoids the Caribbean tinge that ...
| | T-Pain Epiphany CD (2007)
MS. Kelly
$9.79 Second album features guest appearances by his mentor Akon as well as Yung Joc.
Photographer: Christian Lantry. Rapper-turned-singer T-Pain occupies a genre all his own: "Hard & B" is how he describes it. On his sophomore album, EPIPHANY, the Tallahassee native follows the same formula that made his debut such a success--namely, shockingly hardcore lyrics normally reserved for the rap arena, cloaked in sweat and sensitive melodies. With a penchant ...

$10.15 It seems like T.I. hasn't gotten any rest since he hit it big with his sophomore release--2003's TRAP MUZIK. With an impressive array of LPs, mixtapes, countless guest spots, and enough industry legwork on his Grand Hustle label in the ...
