Born September 18, 1967 in Rochester, New York, James, or as his friends call him "Jimmie" is a seasoned Jazz musician who began his musical incipiency at the mere age of 7. Jimmie began studying piano, which created an early basis for his music writing in his later years. His music teacher introduced him to and he began playing the saxophone, shortly thereafter. Recognizing Jimmie's promising potential, he was guided to study music at the Hochstein School of Music where he honed his ability to musically shine and stand out from his peers. Jimmie brought that same focus and thirst for music playing to the High School for Performing Arts. At the High School for the Performing Arts, Jimmie was exposed to a musically competitive environment of band competitions, jazz combo performances, and other competitive solo scenarios. In Jimmie's senior year of high school, he auditioned for and was accepted into the prestigious Eastman School of Music, where he played Baritone sax in the Eastman School Jazz Band. After graduating from High School, Jimmie enlisted in the US Air Force. While stationed in New Jersey, Jimmie found himself in the ideal location to access the New York and Philadelphia jazz scenes. In the service, Jimmie formed a jazz band consisting of musicians from both the US Air Force and Army. The band played at many military events and performed in various countries as part of the entertainment for the International USO Tour. In 1992 Jimmie returned to Rochester where he launched his professional music career and the rest is history. Jimmie has formed many jazz bands, which have been recognized as top regional jazz bands playing in big music festivals and clubs. Jimmie Highsmith, Jr. has performed with many notables such as: Paul Boutte, Chris Beard, Joe Beard, Wynton Marselis, Wessell Anderson, Carl Thomas, Wycliffe Gordon, Eric Reed, Wynton Marsalis and Yolanda Adams. He and his band have also opened for many greats, like: Alicia Keys, Natalie Cole, Little Richard, Najee, "Papa John" DeFrancesco, Robert Cray Blues Band, Joyce Cooling, Montell Jordan, Shameika Copeland, Neville Brothers, Temptations, and the Isley Brothers. Quest began his search finding $weet T, an automotive mechanic working in the grimiest sweat hole he had ever seen. "This guy was covered with grease and had the foulest mouth I had ever heard. It didn't even matter to me if he could rhyme because he was a natural, he looked like he had been up for several days and his breath reeked of alcohol,to top it all off he had an abnormally large roll of money in his pocket that he gave me change with and I knew this guy lived on the edge. Jacquin music CDs
$10.39 Listeners looking for something easy to categorize will find GRAFFITI THE WORLD confounding, but everyone else is in for a treat. Rehab heroically attempt to mix greasy Southern rock, hip hop, reggae, and whatever else catches their fancy. Far from being chaotic, this approach results in colorful tracks such as the bluesy, acoustic rap of "Lawn Chair High," funky hard rock of "Chest Pain," or dusty dirty South ballads such as "Red Water" and "Bartender Song." GRAFFITI THE WORLD is the musical equivalent of a weekend tour of the ethnically diverse, teeming Atlanta metropolis.
Rehab's 2000 debut, Southern Discomfort, was a disturbing and often bleakly funny depiction of the world of drug abuse; like Eminem, to whom the two white Atlanta rappers were most often compared, Danny Boone and Brooks Buford used hip-hop as the form to exorcise some personal demons, but unlike Eminem, there was little sense of persona or deliberate distancing on that album, which felt harrowingly real and personal. Also unlike Eminem, the album didn't sell squat, so Rehab were soon bounced from Sony and took nearly five years to create their D.I.Y. follow-up. Graffiti the World is much more live-sounding than their sample-heavy debut, with a greater use of live guitar, bass, and drums, and Boone and Buford sing at least as much as they rap. The album is also much less lyrically heavy than the debut, with some songs that actually have a glimmer of hope in them. The results at times recall a much less annoying version of the rap-rock of groups like Limp Bizkit. However, that style of music was so thoroughly past its sell-by date by the summer of 2005 that even good songs like the opening "WHT Do U WNT FRM Me" (which features the album's strongest ...
