Mess of Blues contains ten cuts, all of them chosen by Healey from what he considered "audience favorites," rather than his own or his fine band's preferred tunes. Four of these were recorded in front of audiences at the Islington Academy in London and, appropriately enough, at Healey's Roadhouse (his club) in Toronto. The other six were cut at Studio 92 in Canada by Norm Barker and Richard Uglow. Make no mistake: while this an electric blues record to be sure, the very eclectic selection of tracks also puts the words "blues-rock" in bold print. One example is the scorched earth reading of Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane." But there are others, too: the New Orleans-funked up second-line rhythmic pulse shoved right up against early rockabilly in the version of Hank Williams' "Jambalaya"; the excellent tribute to fellow Canadians (with an American drummer) the Band and songwriter Robbie Robertson with a moving version of "The Weight." Following the commercial release of their debut album 'Never Say Never' ONE has embarked on 3 successful tours in the United States, touching North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, and Florida to name a few, has also played for the U.S Navy in Jacksonville the last 2 years. Having spent the upwards of 7 months putting the album together, the Band was confident that they had a product that could compete. 'Every process was as if not more important than the one before, we really put a lot of time into it,' explains guitar player Chris Staniforth. With songs like 'You Fall' as well as the Title track ' Never Say Never' that can sonically blow out the speakers, to a song like 'Mystery' and their hit single 'Here We Are', that shows the band's softer more intimate side. 'We shot a video for that one (Here We Are) and it was the worst snowstorm of the year. We had members of the band stranded and we weren't even able to get into the warehouse to shoot. THAT'S ROCK N' ROLL! , Adds Staniforth. The album takes a listener on an emotional journey. 'We felt that it was the right collection of songs. We wanted to make sure that the whole album was a good listen, not just a song or 2,' says bassist Ben Cousineau; who was forced to leave the recording sessions temporarily due to personal reasons. By spring 2008, ONE welcomed a new member to the family. Drummer and long time friend Rudy Occhionero joined the band about 3 weeks before they went on tour. Having quite a bit experience in the studio, Rudy was new to the touring world but wouldn't trade it for anything. 'I am grateful to these guys for giving me the opportunity to do what I love for a living; there are no words to explain playing in front of new faces every night,' says Occhionero. ...
