COME ON NOW SOCIAL picks up where its predecessor, SHAMING OF THE SUN, left off. Emily Sailers and Amy Ray continue to bring electric guitars into play in the Indigo Girls' idiosyncratic, folk-based musical stew. The opening "Go" is one of their more blistering offerings to date, while "Trouble" seethes with almost equal vitriol. Pleasant and upbeat diversions such as the banjo and mandolin-tinged "Gone Again" and the pop-scented "Peace Tonight" leaven the mix.
An all-star cast of singers and instrumentalists lends its talents to COME ON NOW SOCIAL, including Sheryl Crow, Joan Osborne, and Me'Shell Ndegeocello. One of the most remarkable contributions comes from Natacha Atlas, who adds a stunning vocal performance on the sprawling, Celtic-flavored "Fay Tucker." The song was written as a tribute to Karla Fay Tucker, who, in 1998, became the first woman executed by the State of Texas since the Civil War. COME ON NOW SOCIAL is a thoroughly ambitious and rewarding effort and offers a good entry point into the Indigo Girls' catalogue.

Rolling Stone (9/30/99, p.84) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "...hits a career peak by simplifying the purple poetry into far more effective emotional reds and blues while bolstering the duo's acoustic strum....This is the culmination of everything warm and mighty about the Lilith Fair aesthetic..." Entertainment Weekly (10/15/99, p.83) - "These earnest neo-folkies emerge as modern-rockers on this artfully crafted effort. Confidently electric tunes like 'Go' boast surging choruses while 'Gone Again' works a rustic vibe with uncontrived ease..." - Rating: B+ Q (12/99, p.134) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...finds the duo mining this productive seam once again. They're on good form....a skilful outing..." Come On Now Social
$14.49 Buoyed by the popularity of the hit contemporary pop ballad "Home," singer Michael Bublé's 2005 album, IT'S TIME, clearly positioned the vocalist as the preeminent neo-crooner of his generation. Easily the singer's most stylistically wide-ranging album so far, 2009's CRAZY LOVE is also one of his brightest, poppiest, and most fun. Bublé kicks things off with the theatrical, epic ballad "Cry Me a River" and proceeds to milk the tune with burnished breath, eking out the drama line by line. It's over the top ...

Come On Now Social
$18.99 On Valentine's Day, 2003, four of the Northwest's most acclaimed female musicians performed together for the first time -- almost by accident -- at a club in Portland, Oregon. The irony that four talented, single women were without dates on the most romantic day of the year was not lost on them, and after a few drinks and some post-show commiseration, it began to look like fate. They decided that perhaps four against the world would be more fun than single-handedly attempting the task, and they all felt strangely up to it. So after another round of backstage dirty martinis, a group was born.Lea Krueger, McKinley, Lara Michell, and Stephanie Schneiderman have all earned individual success over the years with their own, critically-acclaimed CD releases, but the alchemy they've created together as Dirty Martini has helped them build a large and loyal audience in the Northwest; an audience that has embraced the quartet's eclectic mix of intimate lyrics, complex harmonies, serious songwriting skills and musical abilities. All four members come from diverse backgrounds. Lea Krueger, a gem of the Northwest music scene, amazes audiences with her mastery of song, musical expertise and unmistakable voice - a unique blend of tenderness with intensity, playful and innocent, yet at times delivered with a fury and passion that (as one journalist wrote) "could easily dismantle your roof." Lea's most recent CD release is entitled 'Strange Hallelujah.'McKinley has released two solo albums, Big Top Shop Talk in 1997 on original Santana drummer Michael Shrieve's Gold Circle imprint, which led to touring with label mate David Crosby, and Goner last year, both of which were ecstatically reviewed both locally and nationally.Lara Michell, guitarist from Portland's Carmina Piranha, has also released ...
