$17.19 Recorded in 1977, 1980, 1996 and 1999. Includes liner notes by Colin Escott.
While the album's title is deceiving -- all but five of the 18 tracks on this double disc originate from the '90s, and 11 of those are from the same show -- this is an adequate, well-recorded document of both the original and re-formed versions of Foghat running through their established repertoire. It also works as a tribute to Lonesome Dave Peverett, the group's lead singer and primary songwriter, who died of cancer in February 2000, about a year after the most recent recording here. Since the band hit their peak in 1977 with their first live recording (a 1977 version of "I Ain't Got You" is this disc's oldest, tightest, and most succinct performance and might even be an outtake from that album), this can't help but be a retread. Still, the group retains most of their original lineup and their ...

| | Gene Ammons Greatest Hits: The 70S CD (1998)
Extended Versions
$9.69 Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Rudy Van Gelder (1998, Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey).
In 1969, Gene Ammons was released from prison, where he'd been incarcerated after a drug conviction, and threw himself into recording like a man possessed. He was undaunted by such changes in jazz as the New Thing/avant-garde, funk, or the rumblings of fusion, and in fact adapted to them effortlessly. (Avant-saxophonist Ellery Eskelin points to him as a major influence.)
This GREATEST HITS package presents a cross-section of his '70s material, during which time he recorded in many settings, from small groups with organ and electric wah-wah guitar, to bands with a string section, working out on searing originals ("Ger-Ru"), and pop standards such as Sinatra's "My Way." On the opener "The Jungle Boss," a cooking skillet of early-70s jazz-funk, Ammons adopts ...

$16.45 J K B'Bleeding the Soul'Jeff Kollman - vocals / guitarsKevin Chown - bass / vocalsCharlie Waymire - drums "No loops, no fuckin' auto tune, just pure rock'n'roll - powerful, dynamic, dark and twisted" is how guitarist/vocalist JEFF KOLLMAN sums up his latest venture, JKB, whose whisper-to-scream and every notion in between debut CD 'Bleeding the Soul' is burning with the type of intensity and passion so much of today's bland, formulated music seems to be lacking in spades.' "The record was written and recorded at breakneck speed. I think the lyrics and vocals were all done in two weeks", reflects Jeff, who also produced and mixed the effort, on the organic live ...

And the band is also represented with one song on the Norwegian sampler JazzCD.no 3rd set. “It is an album with a freshness and originality that grabbed hold of me after just a few bars” Dagsavisen “A promising debut record where Seim plays with a sound that ranges from pure classical to rough, with glowing intensity in fascinating, extended melodic lines” Dagbladet “This is a surprising and beautiful album, and Seim is a musician who claims a solid place in the landscape of modern jazz” Jazznytt“The original compositions are turned and twisted in all directions and the album is constantly exciting to listen to (…) very fun and playful, not to mention cool” Utropia “The music is constantly transforming through shifting colours, strange dialogues and explosive, tight themes.” Norwegian Broadcasting Company (NRK)Producer and guest artist on the album is New-York sax player Andrew D’Angelo. The result of this collaboration is an album of slow-burn jazz, where the extreme blowouts often associated with the jazz genre are toned down and mixed with slow, friendly moods, strange but playful melodies, fragile and honest conversations and extended melodic development. Liner notes by Marilyn Crispell: “The compositions and the playing on this CD are wonderful. I felt like I was being taken on a journey. Sometimes I had impressions of New Orleans, the Caribbean, Arabia, northern tundras, and even Mongolia.(…)It\'s a beautiful and impressive CD. Thanks, Gunhild!” BIOSGunhild SeimTrumpet player/composer based in Stavanger, Norway. After spending years as a sideman in different styles, she wanted to speak with her own voice, which resulted in the formation of the band Time Jungle. In 2007 she released her debut cd with Time Jungle, which was selected one of top ten norwegian jazz releases in 2007 by a major norwegian newspaper. Gunhild also makes music for large jazz-ensembles, some of which has been performed at different jazz festivals in Norway and internationally. In 2005 she was one of ...
