A Hollywood canine becomes a firehouse dog in this film. Extras include montage, featurettes, deleted scenes, making-of footage, and poster gallery. In director Todd Holland's 2007 family film FIREHOUSE DOG, Hollywood's top canine star, Rexxx (played by a number of Irish terriers), is forced out of his pampered lifestyle when an accident leaves him far from home and presumed dead. Taken in by Shane (Josh Hutcherson), the son of a firehouse captain (Bruce Greenwood), Rex becomes the struggling fire department's unlikely mascot, and is gradually forced to give up his snooty behavior whiling embracing the selfless and daring duties involved in firefighting. And as the stubborn Shane forges a bond with Rexxx, he also begins to heal the rift with his sullen, hard-working father.
Helmed by TV comedy vet Holland, FIREHOUSE DOG mixes animal-driven action and laughs with a poignant father/son storyline. And though the lead mutt(s), Hutcherson (star of '07's BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA), and seasoned actor Greenwood are all fine in their roles, the film is bolstered by an excellent supporting cast that includes Bree Turner, Dash Mihok, Steven Culp, Bill Nunn, and Mayte Garcia (Prince's former wife). Ideal for firefighting enthusiasts, dog lovers, and tween viewers, FIREHOUSE DOG doesn't reinvent the canine-centric movie, but it's an entertaining installment in the subgenre that stands (on four legs) on par with AIR BUD and BEETHOVEN. $5.85 Greatest Hits contains Dan Seals' biggest contemporary country hits from the late '80s, including the number one singles "Addicted," "Big Wheels in the Moonlight," "Bop," and "Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)," among four other hits. Though it is a good collection, The Best of Dan Seals edges Greatest Hits out slightly, due to its larger concentration of big hits. ~ Thom Owens
| | Kenny Chesney I Will Stand CD (1997)
Firehouse Dog review
$7.59 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
On this, his fourth release, contemporary country singer Kenny Chesney proves that he's got the kind of consistent musical vision and overall stick-to-itiveness that are necessary to make a permanent mark in Nashville. While Chesney surrounds himself with the same studio vets (Larry Byrom, Brent Mason, Matt Rollings, etc.) that accompany 90 percent of his contemporaries, I WILL STAND sets itself apart by virtue of its nod to tradition. While he's not exactly Robbie Fulks, Chesney is clearly influenced by greats like George Jones and Merle Haggard. Instead of going for the across-the-board appeal of big, soppy power ballads, Chesney favors more authentic-sounding country fare. Titles like "From Hillbilly Heaven to Honky Tonk Hell" give you an idea where Chesney's sensibilities lie.

| | Very Best Of John Michael Montgomery CD (2003)
Firehouse Dog DVD
$10.29 Recorded between 1992 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Robert K. Oermann.
Though he has always essentially been a new traditionalist country singer in the vein of Aaron Tippin and George Strait, John Michael Montgomery found his greatest success with smooth, romantic ballads that recall the work of Glenn Frey as much as that of Merle Haggard. THE VERY BEST OF JOHN MICHAEL MONTGOMERY lives up to its title by including most of the singer's finest and highest-charting singles in both styles, in the process collecting a body of work that virtually defines the "new country" phenomenon. Montgomery has the kind of soothing pipes and perfect phrasing that endear him even to ardent country-haters, and his material has the kind of straight-for-the-gut forthrightness that is sure to attract anyone tired of the irony-drenched hipper-than-thou-isms of contemporary pop. In addition to the hits, the package includes two newly recorded tracks, which easily measure up to the rest of the material here with their characteristic mix of rootsy instrumentation and wonderfully tear-jerking melodrama.
Bound for the airwaves, Montogomery's first-ever TV-marketed career-spanning compilation features all the hits, signature ballads, and two new, 2003 songs, 'Cool' & 'One Day Less'. Slipcase. WB Records.

Audio Mixers: Mike Clute; Scott Hendricks.
Audio Remasterer: Keith Blake.
Liner Note Author: Robert K. Oermann.

| | Wild Hogs DVD (2007) Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled
Firehouse Dog movie DVD
$11.79 Walter Becker (NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VAN WILDER) directs this tale of four friends who hit the open road. Woody (John Travolta), Doug (Tim Allen), Bobby (Martin Lawrence), and Dudley (William H. Macy) are middle-aged suburbanite buddies stuck in a rut. Doug, a dentist, yearns for respect from his pre-teen son and everyone else in his life. Bobby is a henpecked husband and unhappy plumber. Computer programmer Dudley is a flop with the ladies. And Woody, who seemed to have it all, has just lost everything. Each weekend the foursome takes to the streets of Cincinnati on their motorcycles as the "Wild Hogs." With his world secretly falling apart, Woody hits on an idea: a "Wild Hogs" road trip to the Pacific Coast. Soon, the four are embarking on the adventure of their lives. But when they stumble upon a roadside dive in New Mexico filled with "real" bikers and raise the ire of Jack (Ray Liotta), who is the leader of the Del Fuegos, the Wild Hogs discover that they are in for a greater adventure than they expected, including a showdown in the sleepy New Mexico town of Madrid.
Travolta, Allen, Lawrence, and Macy have fun here, from the verbal barbs to the physical comedy, and Liotta works surprisingly well as a "real" biker who is disgusted and insulted by these weekenders. The perpetually effervescent Marisa Tomei appears as a Madrid local who catches Dudley's eye, and John C. McGinley is an overly enthusiastic highway patrolman repeatedly encountered by the foursome. Watch for an all too brief appearance from EASY RIDER star Peter Fonda, and an amusing segment from Ty Pennington of EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER. Despite the star power in this film, which was shot on location in New Mexico, it's the custom bikes and open road that really shine.
Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy star in this film. Extras include making of ...
| | Van Zant My Kind Of Country CD (2007)
Firehouse Dog video
$8.99 Though brothers Johnny and Donnie Van Zant made their name in the southern rock outfits Lynyrd Skynyrd and .38 Special, there's little difference between 1970s southern rock boogie and much of what's on top of the country charts in 2007, so MY KIND OF COUNTRY fits right at home alongside the likes of Brooks and Dunn and Travis Tritt. With songs like "Goes Down Easy," "These Colors Don't Run" and the title track, the brothers clearly know their good ol' boy market backwards and forwards.
