Issued a full decade after Hanson's major-label debut, MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, 2007's THE WALK finds siblings Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson far from their precocious "MMMBop" beginnings, with all of the brothers married and, in some cases, fathers. Continuing in the more mature vein of '04's UNDERNEATH, this outing finds the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based trio still nodding to their soul-inspired roots (see the funky and slightly melancholy "Something Going Round"), while staying in a guitar-driven rock direction. While some bands flounder in post-major scenarios, Hanson have thrived by setting up their own label (3CG) and remaining true to their own collective muse, a point hit home by the emotive and assured "Great Divide," one of the many standout tracks on THE WALK.
Hanson: Isaac Hanson, Zac Hanson (acoustic guitar); Taylor Hanson (Clavinet).
Additional personnel: DD Dliwayo School Choir, Soweto, South Africa, Iris Ministries Zimpeto Center Choir (vocals); Miles Zuniga (guitar); William James 'Bleu' Mcauley III (acoustic guitar); Kevin Wyatt (bass guitar); Danny Kortchmar (congas); Walker Hanson, Kate Hanson, Natalie Hanson, Ezra Hanson, Penelope Hanson, Jessica Hanson, Avery Hanson, Mackenzie Hanson, Zoe Hanson, Nikki Hanson, River Hanson, Diana Hanson (hand claps); Chris Rezanson (sampler); CJ Eiriksson (unknown instrument); Palesa Khokeletso.
Uncut (p.67) - "WALK feels like a natural progression....Gratifyingly strong." -- Grade: B+ No Depression (p.105) - "Taylor Hanson remains an exuberant blue-eyed soul singer, and his older brother Isaac drops big crunchy guitar chords liberally throughout." Walk Music Review Average Rating: (4.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews musical experiment Hanson's anticipated album of the summer is full of energizing vocals and melodies. Positive messages and in various musical styles on each song. Some funk, rock, and even a kind of country balad going on in ONe MOre. Some melodies come off a little trite, however, especially on Georgia, Your Allusion, and ONe MOre. Seems like the trio has plunged into the arena of experimentation in their home studio. Aside this, though, the lyrics come straight from the heart and their broadened sound just proves to all their true talent from within. Submitted by J.Tissot (MOravia, NY) Was This Review Helpful? This album is Great! Hanson is an amazing band, they get a bad rap for their early success with Mmmbop, but take it from me, they have changed a lot. Their music has grown and matured just as much as they have in the ten years since their first album hit the shelves. This album is by far their most mature work to date. If you haven't given Hanson a chance since the 90's... give it a try, I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised. Their isn't sugar-sweet pop music anymore. It's somewhere between pop and rock. My picks for the album would be Been There Before, Tearing It Down, Got A Hold on Me, and Illusion(Which will definitly surprise you).
Seriously just have an open mind.

Rock at its Finest. Mark recommended this album if you would like to hear "no-talent garbage contrived by their producer." This statement came from a person who clearly has no knowledge of the band that is Hanson. Anyone who has followed Hanson's history realizes that they make their own decisions and with a doubt run their own show. The Walk is certainly another Hanson masterpiece. Inspired by the band's trip to Africa on their own accord, all profits from the single "Great Divide" go to a small hospital in Africa for HIV/AIDs treatment. The song is just one example of the great message, accompanied by great melodies and song structures, that Hanson has to offer. The songs on this album offer an amazing listen. I ask anyone considering this album to simply give it a chance and forget what you think you know. You will not be disappointed by the mature sound of these guys. If you're looking for something contemporary that truly and rawly rocks, you've found it.
I Recommend: Georgia, Running Man, Fire on the Mountain, Something Going Round, The Walk, Got a Hold on Me, and Great Divide Submitted by A Fan (United States) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I am very serious ... these guys are talented! I just saw Hanson in concert on 11/11/07 in their hometown of Tulsa, they put on a terrific show. The songs from "The Walk" sound just as good live as they do on the cd. It's funny everyone that listens to the Cd (without knowing it's Hanson) loves it .. the only time they give negative reviews is when they know upfront it's Hanson. I've done the same thing with "Underneath" not tell them it's Hanson till after they listen and tell me what they thought. Amazing Always positive when they don't know. $13.85 "MMMBop" was nominated for 1998 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. Hanson was nominated for the 1998 Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
The three teen-aged Hanson brothers continue a fine tradition of youth and bubblegumminess that has continued in one form or another since Frankie Lymon first got together with The Teenagers. Like similar groups of the past, brothers Isaac (16), Taylor (13) and Zac (11) compose and play with the help of an army of studio musicians and co-writers ranging from Brill Building legends Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil to current hit-doctors Mark Hudson and Desmond Child. Harmonies, hooks and typical teen fare (puppy love and the like) abound. "Thinking Of You" displays Osmond-like yearnings; on "A Minute Without You," eldest bro Isaac gives a vocal reading worthy of David Cassidy. This unerring pop sensibility manifests itself best on the Dust Brothers-produced debut single "MMMBop." Based ...

$12.89 Billed as Collective Soul's first independent album since its debut, YOUTH arrived a full three years after the group's previous effort, the compilation 7EVEN YEAR ITCH. The hiatus (and greater creative control) seemed to put Ed Roland and company in a positive place, as the record is an undeniably poppy, feel-good effort. "Better Now" declares the band's newfound confidence explicitly in the lyrics, and the music drives the point home, with a rock & roll guitar riff right out of the AC/DC songbook. "How Do You Love" and "Under Heaven's Skies" are moody, mid-tempo acoustic-guitar-driven tunes reminiscent of THE JOSHUA TREE-era U2. "Counting the Days" is a grungy rocker (with just a bit of twang) in the vein ...
