Talk about being in the right place at the right time -- the way Long Beach, CA metallists Droid got signed was by playing a show at the Whisky-A-Go-Go, which was attended by Korn guitarist Munky. It just so happened that the man known for his admiration of seven-string guitars was also scouting bands to sign to his about-to-be-launched label, Emotional Syphon Recordings, and Droid was the first act to get the nod (and as an added bonus, getting to tour with Korn before having any recordings in the shops). Which brings us to their 2007 self-titled debut -- with none other than Munky serving as "executive producer." With all these Korn-konnections, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Droid's sound at times reflects their big brothers during their irate moments -- but they're more of a straight-ahead metal band (few artsy fartsy bits reside here). In fact, judging by such ditties as the album opening "The Resurrection" and "God of Anger," the quintet isn't bashful in breaking out the death metal (especially the group's growler/screamer, James "Buddy" Eason). And wouldn't you know it, another Korn-approved pal drops by for a bit -- Deftones' singer Chino Moreno -- on the bash n' rager, "Vengeance Is Mine." This is one Droid whose power supply appears to be bubbling over with anger. ~ Greg Prato
Droid: James (vocals); Jaime, Bruce (guitars); Duke (bass guitar); Nick (drums).
Additional personnel: Chino Moreno.
Droid Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Awsome I think this bands Cd is awsome.
A friend of mine I work with recomended them and I think there sick. I dont think every song on the cd sounds the game. Like that the last person said. I think each song has it own unique style, you cant go wrong with buying this amazing cd. Submitted by Scott (USA, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Impressive but lacks creativity... The debut album from Droid is impressive, however, because of the lack of creativing and change of direction, the album could be somewhat difficult to listen to. When song after song begins to sound the same, and you constantly keep asking yourself, "didn't I just hear this?" There's a problem. Needless to say. However, the album is surprisingly good in small doses (2, 3 song at most.) This band has the potential to go on and creat better music, however, there seems to be an even greater chance of the band falling of the musical map, if it produces another album like this. Check out No Gods No Masters, the band's most impressive song on the ablum. Submitted by xXx (Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Art Of Dying CD (2008)
Droid songs
$10.19 Hard work, determination, focus and a relentless passion for music are what define the Art of Dying. The Vancouver based five-piece rock act has already established a dedicated fan base, toured relentlessly and is now setting its sights on the global market. The band first entered the music scene in 2005, when Jonny Hetherington (vocals) and Greg Bradley (guitar), formerly of Sunlikestar, stepped into the studio with producer Darryl Rhompf (Trapt, Chevelle). With the help of Rhompf, the band took their creative energies into a new direction. The studio sessions drew upon a wide range of exciting musical influences while keeping their sonic approach heavy, straightforward and ready for mass audience appeal. The self-titled debut album was mixed by industry heavy-hitters Dean Maher (Slayer, Bryan Adams, Trapt) and Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Hedley). Outside of the core members of Jonny and Greg, Art Of Dying has always had a cast of revolving players. In 2008, an exciting line up has formed that includes Tavis Stanley (guitar) and Cale Gontier (bass) from legendary Canadian ...

Droid songs
$6.09 Following the 2000 release of Brazilliant comes the second EP from Paris, Texas, Action Fans Help Us! This five-song juggernaut finds the Wisconsin five-piece at its best, and fans will be pleased with the band's solid, non-emo sound. It's raw rock & roll, punchy in spots, but heavy-hitting all the way. The title track bounces with the twin guitar work of Nick Zinkgraf and Nolan Treolo, while frontman Scott Sherpe's angst-y frenetic vocals ...

| | Horse The Band A Natural Death CD (2007)
Droid CD music
$11.49 By using special keyboards that mimic the eight-bit sound of early Nintendo games, Horse the Band has built a career on combining retro NES sounds with the metallic thud of noise-rock. A Natural Death continues that tradition -- indeed, the liner notes list the Gameboy as one of Erik Engstrom's three instruments -- but the arrival of replacement drummer Chris Prophet has also strengthened the band's metal tendencies. Prophet's drumming is feverishly precise, a flurry of crisp 16th notes and brain-jolting snare hits, and the band seems newly energized (and perhaps a bit more diligent, not unlike a classroom's reaction to a demanding new teacher) as a result. Lyrics that would normally incite laughter (e.g., "Don't feed the bears! Or the bears will feed on you!") are now more likely to incite moshpits. The harsh tone is boosted further by vocalist Nathan Winneke, who screams with the fury of someone who's been chewing on scrap metal since birth. It's impressive and downright scary, which is probably the result this band is looking to generate. Of course, the Nintendo influence is still there. Sandwiched between the band's hardcore riffage are those unforgettable sounds from the '80s, including the nostalgic "warping noise" that Mario used ...
| | Ledisi Lost And Found CD (2007)
Droid music CDs
$10.55 New Orleans-born, California-bred singer Ledisi released a couple of indie albums leading up to her big-label debut with LOST & FOUND, and the latter is where the world at large meets a talent both highly individual and slyly syncretic. While Ledisi is ostensibly a modern R&B singer, whose tunes bear touches of hip-hop in their production, her background in everything from showtunes to symphony halls peeks through. The jazzy ...
