"3rd & Main puts out a very hip, all-original jazz sound...3rd & Main's cast of Gil Lopez on guitar and vocals, Chris Kneisel on guitar and effects, Mark Eich on bass and Ken Hart on drums weaves a cool effect throughout."Mark Bialczak, Music CriticThe Post-Standard (Syracuse, NY)April 22, 2007Like fine wine and aged spirits, members of 3rd & Main combine to produce a unique flavor of music. The sounds range from a light ambient tone to a bold spotlight presence. The moods that are conjured up are as numerous as plot twists in the Maltese Falcon. When listening, you can search your soul, or just let the sound penetrate and pass through you like beams of light. They hail from upstate New York (clarification: anything above New York City is classified as upstate). Syracuse, to be precise. "Six months of winter, and six months of tough sledding." But the laidback lifestyle here lends to the tones of the band, allowing them to serve up a rich blend of jazz in which the discerning listener will hear the art-rock influences that provides their historical background. The music is all original. Fleshed out into existence by the love of the work, with help from above. The diversity of the songs makes it hard to categorize the type of music into a single style, but for those who like to be able to do that, 3rd & Main has come up with a name for their brand of music: "Cool Noir." 3rd & Main Music | List Price | $15.00 (You save $1.71) | | Category | Jazz Albums | | Label | CD Baby | | CD Universe Part number | 7451406 | | Catalog number | 132120 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Apr 17, 2007 |

| | Lenny Marcus Jazzaphrenia CD (2000)
3rd & Main
$16.45 Lenny Marcus hails from Washington D.C. and worked for many years in New Orleans and south Louisiana. While there, Lenny had the opportunity to study with world-renowned jazz educator Alvin Batiste at Southern University, as well as the legendary jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis, among others. Perhaps the greatest influences came, however, from the strong left-handed, blues-oriented pianist Ray Bryant, to whom Lenny grew up listening, as well as the more modern, modal approach of McCoy Tyner. His bluesy, vocal phrasings remind the listener of a young Mose Allison, with a little Michael Franks mixed in. Lenny also brings his own unique style, providing a fresh innovative, and highly creative approach to the jazz listener.Lenny is featured on several albums, including six as leader: BAT IN THE HAT; the widely acclaimed REMEMBER INFINITY; the 1998 CD with world-renowned guitarist Charlie Byrd A DIFFERENT SHADE OF BLUE; JAZZAPHRENIA, with featured guests Frank Foster and Sonny Fortune; JAZZ TONIGHT featuring trumpeter Brian Lynch of The Phil Woods Quintet and Chip McNeill of Arturo Sandoval's group; and his latest CD, CATHEXIS, ...

| | Johnny Katchoolik Wings Of The Mind CD (2006)
3rd & Main
$9.35 This is Johnny Katchoolik's first all-instrumental album, featuring 15 tracks that will make your mind go "wheee!" The way the tracks are laid out in the album is more like a 3-course meal. The album starts out with an appetizer of tunes that will ease you into the Katchoolik groove. They are filled with light but flavorful percussion sounds, inspired by Katchoolik's taste for world music. Then, you are whisked to a different dimension, where your mind is challenged with various experimental sounds and rhythms. The percussion, fretless bass, and guitars give wings to your mind. Finally, the sonic journey winds down with a few mellow and more contemplative tunes that are designed to help you decompress and relax your mind as you continue your day. This album is about being fun, adventurous, avant-garde, carefree, quirky, imaginative, and original. As a musician, Johnny thrives on playing what hasn't been played. Are your wings of mind ready for the sonic flight? ***********Johnny Katchoolik is an indie musician of many colors, personalities, sounds, and eccentricities. His passion for music began at the impressionable age of a toddler. He started out on the guitar but quickly picked up the bass, keyboard, and various other electronic & software instruments. He enjoys breaking the rules and crossing the boundaries. Although he has jammed with many musicians and performed with various bands over the years, his real music playground has always been the studio – the only place where his quirky ...
| | Majestic Notes Jump Start CD (2007)
3rd & Main
$15.89 Majestic Notes features the smooth saxophones of Stuart Dailey and the stylish keyboards of Derrick Thompson. Their pairing is of "Divine Order." One Sunday in May, 2003 at the New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD, Derrick approached Stuart after hearing him play for a Sunday service. The rest as they say, is musical history. Since that initial encounter in 2003, Majestic Notes has blossomed into one of the most dynamically diverse, multi-dimensional duos on the east coast. Their unique blend of contemporary & traditional jazz, gospel , and instrumental R & B has placed them in great demand in the Baltimore/Washington area. They have been the featured performers at many venues including the opening of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, The Department of Transportation Concert Series in Washington, DC, the Black Heritage Art Show in Baltimore, MD, and a sponsor and featured performer at the Ithemba Foundation’s ‘A Taste of South Africa’s’ annual fundraiser. In addition they have played at numerous affairs for fraternities, sororities, community organizations, weddings, church events, and business functions. Derrick is originally from Buffalo, New York and a 1993 graduate of Morehouse College. He moved to Baltimore in 1993 as a part of the Teach for America program and taught third and fifth grade in the Baltimore City School system for five years before becoming a music teacher in 2000. He currently teaches part time at the Mt. Pleasant Christian School and plays for and directs choirs for several churches in the Baltimore area. He most recently served as the musical director for the debut performance of Lea Gilmore’s Moody Woman Tour which featured the music of Nina Simone. In addition to his work with ...
