For their second children's album (following 2005's PAPA'S DREAM, made with Lalo Guerrero), Los Lobos pay tribute to the Walt Disney movie musicals, as others have done before them. This version of the Disney songbook falls in between Barbara Cook's traditional pop treatment on THE DISNEY ALBUM and producer Hal Willner's more imaginative, revisionist take of some of the material, STAY AWAKE. (Los Lobos appeared on the latter, performing "I Wan'na Be Like You," a song repeated here.) Put simply, LOS LOBOS GOES DISNEY could have been called "Disney goes Los Lobos" instead, since the group applies its familiar mixture of musical styles to Disney songs. The set list of Tommy James & the Shondells' All Time Greatest Hits: Live at the Bitter End has his biggest hits, from "Hanky Panky," "Draggin' the Line," "Crystal Blue Persuasion," and "I Think We're Alone Now" to "Crimson and Clover," "Mony Mony," and "Gettin' Together." James' voice is in good shape throughout. Furthermore, some James completists might be enticed by the addition of two early-'80s studio bonus tracks: the 1980 Top 20 hit "Three Times in Love" and the much smaller 1981 hit "You're So Easy to Love." ~ Richie Unterberger It is virtually never a good sign when an album by a well-known performer with the words "greatest hits" and "live" in the title bears absolutely no date anywhere in the liner notes or credits indicating when it was recorded. And it's not a good sign here on Tommy James & the Shondells' All Time Greatest Hits: Live at the Bitter End. It's safe to assume when a date isn't listed that something is being hidden that would discourage potential customers, probably because the recording dates are from much later than when the original hits were recorded. It's also safe to assume that this gig probably didn't take place too long before the disc's 2002 release date. As for the set list, you can't fault it: It does have his biggest hits, from "Hanky Panky," "Draggin' the Line," "Crystal Blue Persuasion," and "I Think We're Alone Now" to "Crimson and Clover," "Mony Mony," and "Gettin' Together."
