English singer-songwriter Kate Walsh specializes in the type of wispy acoustic folk that shoots an arrow straight into the heart of anyone whose heart is open a little already. TIM'S HOUSE, the artist's debut, bears traces of Walsh's influences, which include Joni Mitchell and Tori Amos, yet it is also a highly polished and original effort. Walsh's pure, expressive voice is moving, but it's her confessional, beautifully written songs that give the album its legs. TIM'S HOUSE is soothing, elegant, and offers up no small amount of emotional substance.

Though I have often thought of myself as a songwriter, I have no big commercial successes to date to underpin this notion. My one large desire is to have just a little bit of music popularized before I shuffle off this mortal coil.....and the race is on. My musical roots go back to piano lessons in the 2nd grade and the 45 rpm recordings of the Sun Studio artists. My momma actually raised me on a steady diet of Mrs. Paul’s Fishsticks and Jerry Lee Lewis honkytonk. I couldn’t play all the baseball I wanted to play ‘cause I had to “practice”. All in all, (which curiously enough is one of the song titles on this CD), I would have to say that music has been much more meaningful than baseball in my life. Played in the proverbial rock bands in high school (WHS), trying our best to copy every group that disembarked from the LST’s into America as part of the great British invasion. I was under contract at one time or another to American Recording Studios, Lyn-Lou Studio (Bill Black’s haunt), and TMI Studiosâ€"all in Memphis, Tennessee. In My Dreams is the imaginative creation of composer/performer Yuri Tsapayev and his ensemble “Indie Knight.” Making guest appearances are British institution keyboardist Terry Disley and guitarist Randy Quan. Together they create a memorable musical experience.The first quality of all the compositions on this CD that the first-time listeners notice is the rhythms that pervade every cut. Though the compositional styles range from big-band-like brass parts to Latin percussion to Reggae, all have in common a rhythmic foundation that is at once substantial and elegant.The title cut, In My Dreams, rolls it all up into one haunting melody. The basic rhythm and tempo are essentially Latin, but the brass ensemble accents are as reminiscent of the Dorsey Brothers as they are of Chuck Mangione. Disley provides the piano melody line that floats on the soft bed of the other voices.With In Perfect Sight we find a more driving bass beneath the piano lead. The rhythmic style evolves into a tempo and feel that would be a perfect pace for a thoroughbred at a leisurely gallop.Another example of Tsapayev’s skill at creating gently driving beats is In the Green Hills. Disley’s piano lead and brass ensemble accompaniment coast gracefully on the rich rhythmic bed beneath them.
