| | Todd Helvig Distill CD Todd Helvig Discography of CDs
Fast becoming a movement, Distill is the next installation of the New Folk sound from Todd. Full of energy and life, yet pared down to itâs essence, Distill consists of live recordings of new (and a few refurbished) originals. Itâs an up-close and personal expose of songs written to be heard as you can now hear them: solo and straightforward. When asked about the new album, Todd had this to say:âAfter one of my sets promoting my last cd release (A Stones Throw) a guy came up and purchased a cd. He asked if the disc he was buying was just me playing my songs. I told him the songs had been built up with bass, drums, harmonies, etc. He looked slightly disappointed and said heâd really like a recording that was quite simply the way I played them on stage. I had considered that before, but always went back on it thinking that the songs wouldnât sound complete enough in todayâs market. Then I realized this: My songs are honest and simple. They hold the silence as dearly as the chord. And Iâm not creating for a âmarket,â Iâm creating because thatâs what I do. What better way to represent that than to record them the way I play them live; No filler, no icing, just hit record and play. And thatâs what I did. I named the album Distill because it is, and was, the process that satisfied the urge. My goal was to strip away the excess and distill the creative process down to its core.â The unpolished truth is Distill. Songs like Parallel Lines, I Believe in Love, and Everything I Need lay out Toddâs devotion to basic principles that life canât be fully lived without. Prison Song , Better Days, and Undone speak directly to the nature and substance of humanityâs weaker (often hidden) side. Petrified, Crystal Man, and In the Gloaming strive to make human the human. There is but one exception on the album. The song entitled Tap the Flow âwas an afterthought that was too good to be left out. It began as a little song/zygote that blew up in the basement late one night. I take no responsibility for said explosion.ââItâs about catharsis, exploration, and embracing the truths we are faced with each and every day.âPlease take a second to sample the tunes, buy a cd, and visit Toddâs website. New and old fans welcome!*All quotations are direct comments by Todd. Distill album
$10.09 With their beautiful harmony vocals and gentle melodies, Peter, Paul & Mary were the most popular folk act of the 1960s. While Bob Dylan was unquestionably the genre's most influential and revered performer by the mid-1960s, it was Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers who helped him to reach a larger audience with their accessible '63 renditions of his "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." In addition to Dylan, the group also championed the work of Gordon Lightfoot and John Denver, most notably with the wanderlust tales "For Lovin' Me" ...

$11.39 Long before they became The Band, these four Canadians and one southern rebel rocked the rooftops off Canada as The Hawks, Ronnie Hawkins's fierce back-up band. Distill album
$10.49 The fourth album by string-band revivalists Old Crow Medicine Show and their first for Nettwerk Records, O.C.M.S. is the band's strongest work. Evenly split between traditional folk and blues songs like "C.C. Rider" and "Poor Man" and originals by the band members, these 11 songs are solid, unpretentious folk-rock delivered with enough zest to lift it from ...
| | Patty Griffin Impossible Dream CD (2004)
Distill CD music
$8.19 Expanding on her 2002 all-acoustic outing, 1000 KISSES, Patty Griffin delivers a stellar, full-band sound on her masterful fourth album, IMPOSSIBLE DREAM. With support from producer/guitarist Craig Ross, as well as guest vocalists Buddy and Julie Miller and Emmylou Harris, Griffin serves up a hearty mix of Americana-flavored fare marinated in organic ambiance. Possessing a voice with a slight twang, reminiscent of Iris DeMent, Griffin belies her Boston roots with a wealth of Southern-flavored songs that include "Standing," a goose-bump-inducing tune with gospel overtones, and "Useless Desires," a high-lonesome tale with fiddle accompaniment by Lisa Germano. Diehard Griffin fans will be pleased to finally see the studio version of longtime concert ...

$8.79 Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hounds: Izzy Stradlin (vocals, guitar, percussion); Rick Richards (guitar); Jimmy Ashhurst (bass, background vocals); Charlie "Chalo" Quintana (drums, percussion).
Izzy Stradlin was always the most gifted member of Guns N' Roses, able to put a modern spin on the classic rock of Chuck Berry, the Stones, and the Faces, as well as the New York Dolls and Sex Pistols. Axl may have had the angst and Slash may have had the ...

| | Adam Hurt Insight CD (2006)
Distill CD music
$15.19 Deemed a "banjo virtuoso" by the Washington Post, Adam Hurt draws on diverse musical influences from the North Carolina piedmont, the mountains of central West Virginia, the Ohio River Valley, and beyond to create his own elegantly innovative clawhammer banjo playing. At age 25, Adam has already placed in or won most of the major old-time banjo competitions including Clifftop, Mount Airy, and Galax, and won the state banjo championships of Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio, as well as the state fiddle championships of Virginia and Maryland. A respected teacher of traditional music, Adam has conducted banjo workshops at the Swannanoa Gathering, the Augusta Heritage Center, and Appalshop, among other venues around the country. In 2006, Adam released his second CD, "Insight," on the Ubiquitone label. This recording highlights Adam's innovative banjo playing both in solo settings and with accompaniment by Cathy Fink (guitar, banjo, bouzouki), Beth Hartness (guitar), Marcy Marxer (guitar, mandolin, uke), and Jarred Nutter (fiddle). The selections found on this CD represent a surprising diversity of traditional Appalachian music, running the gamut from Round Peak stalwarts to stringband rags, from a Bill Monroe original to three Ed Haley tunes recorded on clawhammer banjo for the first time.Following up on the success of "Insight," Adam spent a year refining and recording new material for his latest CD, "Perspective," which was released in the summer of 2009. The focus is once again on Adamâs highly individual clawhammer banjo arrangements of traditional music, with able support from fiddler Stephanie Coleman and guitarists Beth Hartness, Andy Edmonds, and IBMA Guitarist ...
