Martin Torres began playing guitar at the age of 11, by 15 he was playing professionally with a number of bands throughout California's Central Valley. Four years later, Martin picked up the bass and has since made it his main instrument. Martin holds a Bachelors degree in composition and bass performance from Chapman University where he studied with Michael Martin and David Black. Martin completed his formal education with an MFA degree from the University of California where he focused on understanding modern composition and improvisational techniques with renown jazz flautist and composer James Newton. In addition to his formal degrees in music, Martin has continued his study of modern composition and improvisational techniques with some of the most innovative pioneers within this field, which include Bertram Turetzky, Darek Oles, David Friesen and Kei Akagi. While Martin explored the boundaries of improvisation and modern composition, he remained active as a performer in Southern California. He has performed with Ernie Watts and Billy Taylor and has recorded for television programs such as The Guiding Light and Malcolm In The Middle. In 2001, his jazz group On The Mile released their debut CD "Different Lines". In 2002 his rock band FeLT released their first recording "Dessert Center", both releases were met with critical acclaim. With his latest project, Poem Martin sets off on his own to create a record that is the culmination of all the various influences and styles that make up his musical pallet. All of the compositions on“Poem”were written by him. His arranging displays a unique ability to balance several musical concepts within the framework of a single composition. His musicianship is best exemplified in his artful integration of different musical forms. He combines the technical precision of classical music with the improvisational expressive qualities of jazz, coupled with Latin music and elements of modern concert music to create a unique mosaic of sound. His technique as a composer allows him to weave these genres into one indelible style. The result is an exciting and moving musical experience. In addition to maintaining a large number of private students, he also teaches at Cerritos College, Vanguard University and the University of California at Irvine."Concerning the music of Martin Torres, his bass solos are very creative and his compositions and arrangements are musically wonderful."David Friesen"Martin Torres' new recording “Poem” truly showcases an emerging voice as leader, bassist, and composer. His original works show innovation combined with a deep understanding of the rich tradition of jazz composition as practiced by the great masters."Kei Akagi Poem Music | List Price | $15.97 (You save $3.82) | | Category | Jazz Albums | | Label | CD Baby | | CD Universe Part number | 7453592 | | Catalog number | 131566 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Apr 17, 2007 |

Poem CD music
$17.09 Intents & Purposes documents Bruckmann's first visit to the Chicago scene since leaving for the Bay Area in 2003, as well as Wrack's chamber-group-meets-creative-improvisation sound, which bridges the gap between modern classical music and Chicago's experimental jazz scene."As an oboist," writes Bruckmann in the liner notes, "I have little choice but to approach jazz tangentially, cautiously sidling up alongside it. Whether or not Wrack 'sounds like' jazz is immaterial; I'm only concerned that it behaves like jazz. The notation often deliberately eludes perfectibility, in an attempt to embrace the 'mistake' and circumvent the paralysis always threatening classical performance practice. The processes employed attempt to drag all the players into the action as engaged creative partners, with equitable distribution of cuing responsibilities and improvising space.""Kyle Bruckmann's discography paints a picture of a modern day renaissance musician," wrote Dusted's Adam Strohm. For the past decade, the double-reed player/composer has embraced musical endeavors ranging from classical to electronic to experimental rock to free improvisation, performing throughout the U.S. and Europe and appearing on more than 30 recordings. From 1996-2003, he worked in Chicago as a freelance orchestral musician while also collaborating extensively with members of the city's experimental music scene. Now based in San Francisco, Bruckmann performs regularly with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the Bay Area while working within a vibrant international community of improvisers and sound artists.Musicians: Kyle Bruckmann (oboe, English horn, suona), Tim Daisy (percussion), ...

Poem music CDs
$22.79 DR. ALFRED J. GALLODORO, SAXOPHONIST/CLARINETIST, MORE PROLIFIC THAN EVER IN HIS NINETIES, RELEASES NEW CD, DAYBREAK – LYRICAL JAZZ. With a career spanning over nine amazing decades, Gallodoro has a specific goal as he releases his third CD in less than two years: to bring a renewed awareness of the lyrical sound of the saxophone to mainstream jazz. He has achieved that end by not simply choosing to re-master his fine older recordings, but recording anew, over the age of ninety, with astonishing dexterity, imaginativeness and playful energy.Gallodoro achieved his personal sound by emulating the human voice, specifically that of opera singers, back in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The collection of songs on DAYBREAK – LYRICAL JAZZ range from Grofé’s melodious title track, through the Latin sounds of Taboo, the spirited Flat-Top Special, a melancholy Autumn Serenade, and finished with rich bass clarinet in When Day Is Done. All tunes not only highlight Gallodoro’s style of extemporaneous composition, but in tandem, showcase his art of bring the idioms of jazz and classical music together in a manner unparalleled by any other artist. This CD would not be complete without also delighting listeners with four bonus tracks, of never-before-released recordings from decades ago, Saxophobia, Flight of the Bumblebee, Idyl and Tico-Tico (live) and treats one to clarinet as well. The brilliant technique of these tracks further defines why claims of his greatness have indeed been understated. Also a classical performer in his own right, Gallodoro worked for many years under symphonic conductors Arturo Toscanini and Leopold Stokowski. Thus, one can often detect a classical vein running throughout his art of improvisation. Ferde Grofé was so impressed by Gallodoro’s art that he composed Gallodoro’s Serenade (1957) to specifically to emphasize his style, and showcase his technique. The piece had its premier NYC performance and recording when Al was an unbelievable 91 years ...

Poem songs
$11.39 INTRODUCTIONLed by a female singer perfectly at ease in such different registers as lyric, rock or thrash, SOULMAKER delivers a melodic and varied brand of metal. The band's songs are accessible to most, as they never take the extreme road. From the type of classical heavy metal the band were playing when they were first started, they only kept melodies, and prefer relying on efficiency rather than technical demonstration to build to-the-point songs, meant to be played on stage. On the live front, with about forty dates under their belt, SOULMAKER never cheats and delivers the goods in an energetic manner.BIOGRAPHYSOULMAKER was formed in 1999 by Salva (guitars), sam (bass) and Vivien (vocals). After undergoing several line-up changes, the band settles down in 2002 with the arrival of Nico (drums) and Seb (guitars) in its ranks. They adjusted their weapons playing Heavy Metal covers before deciding to take matters in their hands and write their own stuff. Despite a promising start and a few shows, Seb is forced to sit out due to professionnal reasons, and the whole band went on a hiatus for one year.In the beginning 2004, SOULMAKER is once again a full unit and finds its rehearsal space. During this year, the band records a song for the Into a Heavy Circle compilation and sets their goal on self producing its first demo. In October, it is ready and the band launches its website to push its release. In 2006, SOULMAKER is on a musical crossroad : while keeping the melodic aspects and French lyrics, the band sets for a broader style of Metal, taking elements from every subgenre to achieve its own identity. The demo release enables them to play about twenty shows and land opening spots with PSYKUP and EPICA. At the same time, the band joins the Myspace community and creates its own association, Le Chant Des Ombres. In early 2007, the band splits up with Vivien for musical reasons. Marina is soon integrated in the formation and enables SOULMAKER to enjoy a new start. The band is finding its own strength and records 'Obsessions' to show its new face.To be continued...METAL REVIEWS - 89/100When Soulmaker’s 5 track EP Obsession dropped through my letter box, I couldn’t for the life of me remember putting my name forward to review it. Once heard, I would have bitten the hand off of anyone trying to take it from ...

$16.45 The series of four CDs with the title of Modern Musical Presentation of Japanese Literature and Traditional Japanese Music is consisted of my compositions from 1997 to present. My music relates to my understanding of both the Japanese culture and the culture of the United States; I actually spent the late forty years of my life in the United States. My views on the currently existing Japanese composers and their music may be limited and may not be consistent with the opinions of the many of the current Japanese. However, I may actually be only one composer to have the serious intention to establish the nationalist music of Japan. In my ...
