If you can't stand the heat...Too bad cause here comes Kingston Kitchen! This album is incredible, how could it not be? When you bring the already amazing and established Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation (who's album Sunwalk was released by us right here in the US) and fronted by the notorious Dr. Ring Ding! Genius is sure to ensue. Image the super tight and intricate Eastern European traditional ska sounds of Rotterdam, with the larger than life vocalization, performing and tromboning stylee of the Doctor himself! This album is a refreshing sound coming from Dr. Ring Ding again. Since the break up of the Senior All Stars band, that brought us so many great ska albums, Richie "Senior" Jung, has been mainly involved in dancehall and swing jazz projects. We are more than excited to get him back into the ska grove and putting out what we all love most. Rotterdam live up to the standard they set so high for themselves in the short time they have been around. This band is top notch, if you don't have "Sunwalk" I suggest picking it up along with this record for the full effect of this band. Don't let the "ska-jazz" name fool you into thinking they are another cookie cutter "trad-ska-jazzy" boring band. They were definitely the highlight of January 2006 Knitting Factory 3 Floors Of Ska show for me. It's very refreshing to hear and see talented, educated and dedicated musicians playing ska a genre that seems to be so easily saturated with underdeveloped pop punk wanna be rip off bands. If you want the real deal, this is where it is at! Kingston Kitchen Today's Special Songs Today's Special Review

$20.53 MOON OF MANAKOORA by JANET SEIDEL recently won the coveted Bell Award for best Jazz Vocal CD 2006 in the Australian Jazz Awards.Placed No.1 on the prestigious jazz vocal chart of Japan’s Swing Journal for 3 consecutive months, Moon Of Manakoora features a dreamy jazzy repertoire featuring Janet’s warmest ever vocals and the amazing Chuck Morgan on ukulele and guitars. Famous Japanese jazz writer, Yasukuni Terashima, wrote "I really enjoyed Chuck Morgan`s ukulele performance. In fact this is the first time I’ve enjoyed ukulele in a jazz setting. “Fantastic!”This is the best album I’ve ever come across" Originally produced and recorded in Australiafor a Japanese record label & previously only available in Japan, now its here in Australia on La Brava Music label. A perfect soundtrack for our summer season.Reviews:Bruce Crowther - famous UK jazz writer ..... "Hold on to your hats, but Moon Of Manakoora includes the hitherto non-jazz sound of a ukulele. During a 2004 visit to Japan, Janet was accompanied at a concert by David and Chuck. The guitarist had that day bought a ukulele and the audience not only spotted the instrument, but turned out to be made up in large part of ukulele admirers. They demanded that he play his new instrument and rather than cause an international incident, he did so. They gave him a standing ovation and it's not hard to see why. At this subsequent recording session he was persuaded to feature the instrument again and his ...

Today's Special album
$16.45 Love songs, drinking songs, laments, a political rabble-rouser, and more. With their new CD "Tam Lin," Bob Hay & the Jolly Beggars further explore the rich lode of songs that Robert Burns left us. The title track is an ancient ballad which Burns collected, added a couple of verses to, and published in 1792. All the other songs on the CD have more of Burns in them. The melody of "Bonnie Ann" was written by Burns friend Allan Masterson, who also composed the melody to "Willie brew'd a peck o' maut," which is on the first CD. The song "I love my Jean" was specified by Burns to be set to the melody known as "Miss Admiral Gordon's Strathspey." This is Burns most common method - writing lyrics to match traditional Scottish melodies."Whistle o'er the lave o't" appears to have been an all-purpose chorus to any number of bawdy verses which Burns used for his musings on the progress of marriage. "Blythe hae I been" was specified by Burns to be set to a dance tune known ...

Today's Special CD music
$7.49 In the fall of 1997 I was playing open mics in Baltimore as a solo artist. Some nights I had random friends fill out the stage and we would play under the name Honey. Within the early months of 1998 I had met a woman who would change my life completely. At an open mic at a Fells Point coffee house I met Misty Letts. Misty Letts was also a solo artist on the Baltimore scene at the time. She was just coming off a full time gig as the front woman for the popular country cover band Misty & The Midnight Blues. She had landed the unfortunate role of entertainment coordinator of a large spring festival and needed bands. She called me one evening in May of 1998 and asked me to play the show. There were just two things. One being I had to have a band and the other being the show was in just three weeks. I, of course, did not have a band. Though I told her I did. Later she would claim she knew I was lying, but knew I would make it happen. Anyway, I put out some calls. I had a friend commit to bass and he knew a guy from his previous band who would more likely than not play drums for one gig. I sent a tape (yes, I said "tape") of some songs to drummer Josh Almoney. He dug it and we set up a practice. Two weeks later we played the festival to great applause and joy. We decided to ...
