| | Balash, Tim & The Chrome Magpies Hungover On Judgement Day CD Balash, Tim & The Chrome Magpies Discography of CDs
If you’ve seen Tim Balash and the Chrome Magpies under the stage lights, you don’t need any reminders of how much, for what’s ostensibly a country band, they completely rock. Not in the slow buildup way, like Gram Parsons or something more pretentious. It’s more like a Baptist minister’s controlled explosion. Beauty on the edge of danger. Mop-headed Balash’s high voice is key, and he’s a fine songwriter.-Fish Griwkowsky, The Edmonton SunBalash’s debut album, Hungover On Judgement Day, is another tribute to Edmonton’s independent rock scene. Whether he’s rocking out with a bluesy guitar lead on ‘Money is the Blood’ or being cheeky with the country-rock of ‘It’s Hard to Look for Work When You Don’t Get Up Til Noon’, the quality of Balash’s songwriting is undeniable. Tim Balash isn’t the kind of songwriter who gets stuck in a rut. He throws more musical change-ups than most; and a Chrome Magpie show sees him moving from electric to acoustic guitar for the many different styles he chooses to work in.As for his backing band, the Chrome Magpies feature some of the most recognizable names on the Edmonton music scene; Brent Oliver, founder of the city’s Green Pepper Records label, offers his services on the Hammond, especially effective on the album’s title track, which sees him play as if he’s offering a backing to a church hymnal. Gavin Dunn, Oliver’s ex-bandmate in the country-rock outfit the Maybellines, provides some great guitar licks while well-respected Tim Resaul takes a regularspot behind the kit. Balash and the Chrome Magpies offer some of the grittiest original tunes on the Alberta music scene right now, but it’s awfully hard to try to categorize them.-Steve Sandor, Edmonton Plus Hungover On Judgement Day Music | List Price | $10.97 (You save $3.62) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Rock CDs | | Label | CD Baby | | CD Universe Part number | 7455080 | | Catalog number | 129767 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | May 01, 2007 |

Hungover On Judgement Day
$15.05 U-Ziq: Mike Paradinas. Historically interesting from the standpoint of -Ziq's later work, shades of Jake Slazenger and Kid Spatula can be heard on Bluff Limbo. The album is nonetheless overly repetitive, relying heavily on the distortion-pedal aesthetic by now a clich of Rephlex artists (Aphex Twin, Cylob and Kinesthesia). The album was originally issued as a promo-only in 1994 (and then with different track listings across formats!) and finally saw proper release in the middle of 1996. ~ Sean Cooper Establishing a pattern of incredible prolificacy, Mike Paradinas followed TANGO N' VECTIF, Mu-Ziq's 1993 debut, with this remarkable ...

| | Dremora Martyrs CD (2007)
Hungover On Judgement Day
$9.35 DREMORA is female-fronted symphonic metal from America that mashes heavy metal with classical symphonic orchestration. It is then polished with powerful female soprano vocals, and snarling male gutturals. This exceptional combination of American and European style makes it original. Dremora has been described by its fans as similar to Nightwish, Epica, After Forever, Therion, Tristania, Dream Theater, and Megadeth.Dremora was formed April 2006 in Los Angeles, CA by songwriter 'Thomas K'. He handles all of the music, and male vocals. Female vocals are performed by the Brazilian soprano Juliana Novo; she injects a unique, dark tone with her vocals, which can be best described as a mixture of classical and rock. The shredding lead guitar work on the song 'Martyrs and Madmen' is performed by a man only known as 'Andrew'. "Martyrs" is their only release. It is a 4-song EP, released internationally on August 3rd, 2007, with a total running time of 22:48. Each song has it's own individual vibe:Track 1 "Alone" is an emotional ensemble with an unforgettable chorus and a solid gothic-rock feel about it.Track 2 "Martys and Madmen" has old school thrashy downtuned guitars and operatic vocals so powerful during the chorus that it gives goosebumps; it's themed after the ...
