Our Revels Now Begin songs
$6.69 'Ukelele folk hip-hop' - how did that happen? Well, I found the ukelele in a garbage can when I was in high school and carried it everywhere. The hip-hop? That came after college, one rough summer in Hartford, CT. I was working 80 hours a week, organizing with students for clean air and power. It was the kind of thing where you talk and talk all day long about democracy and justice and health and change. You take it door-to-door and people keep slamming them in your face but you just keep talking, keep believing. On top of this, I'd just been through a couple kamikaze attempts at true love that left me raw and hungry. I turned to music, but none of my favorites, not the Beatles, not Miles Davis, not Bob Dylan were up to the task of getting me through. I needed something that just rocked. Something I could lean into, wail out at the top of my lungs; something to pour full of the gritty, buzzing exhaustion and hope of those days. My ukelele was with me, serving as my best friend, body guard and security blanket. But I couldn't plug it in or strum very loud. It's hard to be hard-hitting with a small instrument most people think of as a kid's toy. Rapping was really the only choice.Saturday mornings I would wake up with word & rhymes sprouting in my head and walk out with my uke through the streets flowing by the sleeping houses. Late at night, I tested my new songs with my team over trays of greasy pizza. I've been writing songs and poems and playing music my whole life, but these songs were a totally new experience. People kept thanking me, telling me I had hit something, even telling others. Not only could they relate this music, it was filling some empty place for them. Maybe I was delirious from lack of sleep, but I felt like people needed these songs - songs that are ...

Our Revels Now Begin CD music
$18.99 In the early eighties Murty went to see Liam Clancy and Tommy Makem in the Durrow Arms hotel in Laois, and was hooked straight away. A show of Music, Songs, Stories and Entertainment at its finest.Within days it was off to Danny Ryan's Music shop in Tipperary Town to purchase his first Five String Banjo. Accompanied by his good friend Pat Murphy selecting an original harmony Banjo, it was time to start learning a few songs. Pat was already an accomplished Guitar player and after a few weeks practice it was out to face the public. Gerry Mc Cormacks was the first stop and a regular Wednesday night session/show began. From a handful of patrons turning up on the first few nights it grew to the level where request were made to the crowds to return their Glasses to the bar if they wanted to get more DRINK. !Such a success was the Wednesday session the owner decided to do it again on the Saturday Night! As time passed by the session grew and grew and became the place where all the local and travelling musicians would turn up to play a tune or sing a song or two, and more requests were made to play elsewhere. A new session then began on a Monday Night in Sean O' Reilly's The Rothe Inn or as it was previously known"THE JUG OF PUNCH" owned by Bobby Clancy. Hearing other people's songs was a great way for Murty to increase his own repertoire and meet new musicians. Regulars in those days were, apart from Pat, Dave Houlahan now an Artist of great renown, Tommy Reid still touring in England, Thomas Jackman and many more. Both Thomas and Murty linked up together to play regularly in the local Pubs and Clubs and going on to support such acts as Dublin City Ramblers, Jim Mc Cann and the Wolfe tones. Another Musician to play with Murty at that stage was Brendan Morrissey who went on to play in leading rock band "My Little Funhouse" touring with Guns and Roses. In those days it was load up the car with Pat and others and off to other sessions all over the country, and one of the best was Powers of Tullahought near Carrig on Suir. It was there that Murty saw a style of banjo playing (that he is still trying to perfect), and that was the style of the great Bobby Clancy. Pick a note, strum and a roll of the fingers across the strings, Magic! Singing!!!!!'Oh seven days are in the week'!!!.. ...
