About John ThorpeJohn K. Thorpe was born in Roxboro, NC, the ninth of fourteen children. He began singing at the tender age of five after his parents and others realized that he had "the favor of God" through song. John attends his family church New Hope Baptist Church, in Timberlake, NC. This talented vocalist presents himself with dedication and devotion, much like John the Baptist. He says that gospel music is "an essential part of his life." John sings tenor as well as baritone. He is a former member of the Brower Brothers and the Mighty Jubilares singing traditional gospel for fourteen years in Newburg, NY. John is also the former radio announcer for "The Gospel Train", WEOK in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is currently a member of the GMWA Gospel Radio Announcer's Guild, as well as a member of the NC Chapter of the Radio Announcer's Guild. His talents have also led him to write lyrics for the late Willie Neal Johnson and The Gospel Keynotes of Tyler, Tx. In 2005 John received the "Soloist of the Year Award" and in Jan 2007 John Thorpe and his family released their first CD entitled "IN HIS NAME".A DVD is included in this package featuring John Thorpe and entitled "IN HIS NAME".*****First and foremost, we thank God for His love, mercy, grace and His anointing on this project and our ministry.This project is dedicated to the loving memory of our parents, Mr. and Mrs. McCollin Edward Thorpe. Godspell, the second musical of the early '70s to be based on the life of Jesus Christ (following Jesus Christ Superstar, which hit the record racks, but not the stage first), was something of a sleeper, opening off-off-Broadway in May 1971, with an original cast album that belatedly became a big success in 1972 after "Day By Day" was released as a single and hit the Top Ten. By then, the show had moved to off-Broadway and was well on its way to a run that would exceed 2,500 performances (and eventually reach Broadway itself). Bell Records, a subsidiary of Columbia Pictures, had released that cast album, and the film company quickly put a movie version into production. Happily, composer Stephen Schwartz retained musical control, and the film, other than using various deserted New York City locations as its set, was quite faithful to the stage version. Five of the ten ensemble performers were retained from the original cast, along with all four of the original musicians, and Schwartz produced the music, as he had on the cast album. As such, the soundtrack album offered him the opportunity to improve upon the cast album, and he did. The jewel box for Learnin' the Hard Way Not to Fuck With... should probably open to reveal a spring-loaded shiv. Instead there's music, but it's of an equally jagged, crude, and brutal variety. The Spades are jailbreak ancestors to the U.K. Subs and Motörhead, preferring pounding rhythms and incessant, ringing guitars to any thorough exploration of melody. That said, "C'mon Baby" does feature a cowbell and some anthemic chord changes, even if frontman Dick Spade warns his woman in his most greasy leer not to cross him. "Don't make me get my gun." These guys are supposedly quite infamous in their native Holland, whether for their alleged criminal histories or their incendiary live shows.
