For fans of Bostridge
You have to love Bostridge's voice to want this compilation of Handel's most famos arias and oratoria. There's nothing new here in the interpretation and like many tenors of his generation, Bostridge's voice is beginning to show signs of wear and tear - or perhaps it's just ennui at having to sing the same repertoire endlessely throughout his career. It's pleasant enough, but disappointing work from both Bostridge and Bicket. "Wafter her angels" (Jeptha) is a particularly disappointing track and Bostridge's voice sounds strained and out of its depth. One expects better from EMI Classics than this sort of off-hand compilation and its main interest will be for musicians using at as a comparison for other, better renditions of the same material.
