Issued in 2007, GUATAUBA UNIVERSITY showcases the talents of highly regarded Puerto Rican producer Manolo Guatauba. With its frenetic reggaeton beats and rhymes, the album is sure to please fans of the wildly popular hip-hop-influenced style, as exemplified by the fast-flowing "Guata Gata" (which features Plan B) and the bouncy "Siente El Calor" (with Zion & Lenox). Guatauba University album
$15.05 In this epic drama exploring Chicano life in East Los Angeles, Miklo (Damian Chapa), Cruz (Jesse Borrego), and Paco (Benjamin Bratt) are three young cousins raised as brothers. Miklo, born of a Chicano mother and a white father, is Chicano on the inside, but feels betrayed by his white skin and blue eyes that keep him on the fringes of his Chicano heritage. Desperate to belong to what he feels is his true family, he'll do anything to be a part of his cousins' gang--his "family." But a retaliatory attack on a rival gang sends Miklo, out on probation, back to prison, and he finds himself in San Quentin. As he serves his time and tries to find a place in the Latino power group in prison--La Onda--his hotheaded cousin Paco turns to a career in law enforcement, while Cruz makes his way as a successful artist. Cruz's ...

| | Stone Roses Second Coming CD (1994)
Guatauba University music CDs
$5.55 The title is a joking reference to the messianic anticipation that built up in the years between the Manchester, England rock band's 1989 debut--which Britain's New Musical Express magazine ranked as the greatest album of the '80s--and this 1995 follow-up. It's also a description of the Stone Roses' sound, a sort of second coming of '60s and '70s blues-rock, re-born with a funk beat. Back in '89 it sounded like a revolution, and it was: crossing Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan with club music, it helped set the template for all British alternative rock to follow, from Blur to the revamped U2. Lenny Kravitz is among the Americans who owes a debt.
SECOND COMING consolidates that sound with a see-sawing mix of hard-rock driving songs--with chunky electric guitar riffs and big beats--and acoustic anthems that immediately sound like they've been on the radio for a dozen years or more. The latter group includes "Ten Storey Love Song," a devotional ballad with a Dylan-esque melody, and ...
| | Deep Purple Burn/Stormbringer CD (2003)
Guatauba University songs
$16.29 Smartly slipcased, this two-CD package rounds up the last will and testament of the Mark Three incarnation of Deep Purple -- that is, the David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes fired lineup that ended with Ritchie Blackmore's departure to form Rainbow in 1975. Released in 2002 as a stop-gap following former bassist Roger Glover's late-'90s remastering of the earlier Deep Purple albums, but before he agreed to supervise similar restorations of the later discs, it is a utilitarian offering. There are no bonus tracks, despite there being a number to choose from, and the actual packaging offers no variation on the existing single discs. Nevertheless, Burn, at least, indicates just how powerful this lineup of the group was, with highlights ranging from the title track -- the ...

| | Algerian Rai CD (2006)
Guatauba University songs
$22.09 Cheb Nacim, not really known in the same league as the other current stars of rai (such as Cheb Mami) or even the slightly older generation (Faudel, Cheb Hasni, Rachid Taha), still packs a punch on this, what would appear to be his first album on the world market. The style is musically complex, eschewing the pure keyboard and string power of much rai and ignoring some of the rock-based punches of the more modern, rebellious end of the genre as well. While keyboards and strings are certainly present and add accentuation when needed, much of the instrumentation is a little more electronic, a little more sparse, a little more clipped. Vocally, Nacim uses a style similar in many ways to Cheb Hasni, a strong influence in his development. ...

$16.45 The shore area of the East coast is my home. I am a self taught musician with my own in-house electronic studio. Learning how to lay tracks was hard but i loved every minute of it.I got my first guitar at thirteen and by fifteen I had been on TV, a show called Express Yourself. I played with Creative Pleasure and lots of Philly bands. Most of the guys I played with are gone. I realize now I had walked away from the one thing I wanted most, to make music. Now I\'m back doing what I love to do. That three in the morning song writing urge still hits me. Five years and four ...
