Purchase Blade Of Triumph CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Dream Evil Evilized CD (2003)
Blade Of Triumph album
$9.85 Evilized is a shameless record, celebrating sacred heavy metal conventions with both passion and a touch of parody. Dream Evil still plays '80s-style power metal with plenty of soaring choruses and fancy fretwork, but they've dropped the Dungeons & Dragons lyrics in favor of songs about the genre itself. The use of lyrical clichés is inspired and witty in this context; singer Niklas Isfeldt's macho boasts of being "so f*cking metal" are self-consciously hilarious yet genuine enough to avoid condescension. Guitarist Gus G. delivers a batch of straightforward, biting riffs to fit Isfeldt's earnest sentiment, and together these two elements make these accessible metal songs more engaging than anything on their heavy-handed debut. Some purists will not enjoy the moments of absurdity, but that's to be expected. What those listeners might want to consider is that despite poking fun at heavy metal's clichés, ...
| | Sword Age Of Winters CD (2006)
Blade Of Triumph CD music
$9.49 Coming to grips with the Sword's unlikely genesis in the alternative music Mecca of Austin, TX, leads one to wonder whether heavy metal has finally become hip again. Depending on your generation, nothing will seem as simultaneously preposterous (Gen-X'ers who came of age during pop-metal's heyday and don't recognize it as an unrepresentative anomaly) or obvious (everyone else) when discussing a genre that's spent the bulk of its 35-year history on the absolute fringe of rock culture. If that isn't "alternative," well, what is? In any case, glorifying heavy metal's prototypical qualities is exactly what the Sword is all about, and their 2006 debut, Age of Winters, sees them joining California's High on Fire, Sweden's Witchcraft, and Australia's Wolfmother (to name but a few) at the forefront of what's gradually become known in the mid-'00s as the "heritage" or "retro-metal" movement. ...

| | Hammerfall Threshold CD (2006)
Blade Of Triumph album
$13.69 Following the unnaturally extended layoff enforced by guitarist Oscar Dronjak's motorcycle accident in 2003, Swedish heavy metal traditionalists Hammerfall waited barely a year between their eventual return with fifth album, Chapter V in 2005, and the release of LP number six, Threshold, in 2006. This suddenly rushed release schedule -- though likely resulting from nothing more than a backlog of pre-written material, ready to come out -- takes something of an uncertain turn on Threshold's first few numbers, which comprise a decent but terribly predictable title track; a lackluster autopilot job and a repetitive chorus in "The Fire Burns Forever"; and a lead-footed crawl through "Rebel Inside," which not even Accept-like choral battalions can jolt into life. Indeed, the claim may be redundant when relating to a band whose very talents involve being true to metal's classic sound, but all three simply ...

| | Vanessa Morrison O Better Days CD (2004)
Blade Of Triumph music CDs
$14.79 For the last several years, "razor-tongued diva, Vanessa Morrison, a rising local star who twists audience requests into scathingly hilarious lyrical improvisations, in the manner of a fearless, freestyling Ani DiFranco" (SF Guardian) has been making waves in the Bay Area music scene. Her 2003 CD "Kicking Air", successfully showcased Vanessa's blend of lyrically whimsical (and sometimes perverse) acoustic soul. Following the release of that album, Vanessa formed Rock Me Pony with bassist Ezra Gale (Aphrodesia, Bitches Brew), and drummer/multi-instrumentalist, Olive Mitra (Loco Bloco, El Pulpo), a group that amplifies the soul and hip-hop leanings of Vanessa's incredible new material even further.Vanessa Morrison's music has been characterized as folk- but that label falls well short of expressing the versatility and musical influences that pour from the ten tracks on "O Better Days" or from her thrilling live performances. Where "O Better Days" ranges from the political ("Holy Land") to the deeply personal ("Listen to the Song Sing") to the downright raunchy and hilarious ("I Wanna Rock Some Cock"), but have more depth and variation with the added colors provided by Mitra and Gale. A typical Vanessa Morrison performance ...
| | Tom 24 & Wills Dear Lucy (A Love Song For The Battle Of Plattsbur CD (2006)
Blade Of Triumph songs
$18.99 As a follow-up to the debut "TWILIGHT BLUE EXCURSION" CD, Thomas Ventiquattro II (Tom 24) presents "DEAR LUCY," and shares the billing with his incredibly talented producer and friend, Daniel Wills. Tom 24 & Dan Wills perform 15 light rock, easy-listening and folk pop numbers, featuring Tom 24 on vocals and guitars, and Dan Wills on bass, drums and keys (Dan also sings bass vocals on the cut, "DEAR LUCY"). War of 1812 history enthusiasts will enjoy the title track, "DEAR LUCY." Tom 24 penned this song when he became inspired after reading about the Battle of Plattsburgh (NY). Tom was intrigued with ...
