Cartel (Turkish Hip Hop)/Cartel (Emo): Adam Wheeler (saxophone); Platinum (horns); Billy Jay Stein , Mike "Nyte" DeSalvo, Juliet Simms, Benjamin Jr. Ickies, Dave Clauss, Dennis Gruenling.
The sophomore album by this Atlanta-based quintet follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, CHROMA. Complete with high polish, guitar-driven rock songs, sprightly hooks, and emo sensibility, Cartel's self-titled follow-up effort is a straightforward dose of punk-pop that manages to be reflective while still rocking out. The songwriting is sharper than on the band's debut, and the album is likely to sell well given Cartel's participation in MTV's BAND IN A BUBBLE series. The show housed the band in a giant bubble for 22 days, where they were filmed writing and recording the album. CARTEL will give fans of the show, and the band, a chance to hear the results of that process in glorious high fidelity.

Cartels a great band, yay for them. This CD came out today and it is da bomb. I will be seeing them in concern on Sept 17, i cant wait!!!!! Submitted by sabkaa (Omaha,NE) Was This Review Helpful? Was this out to please? Gimme a break! Can't help that it has hooks. It simply disappoints me that the river runs through it and leaves blank. Why a remix of 'Wasted' with Wyclef Jean is needed is unneeded to me. The best I've heard it going this far is since Fiction Plane's Left Side of the Brain. Half-decent if the 'bulk' was trimmed down considered emo is the sub-genre of punk, but there are indie flourishes, could sound like a Bedouin Soundclash, which to say it ain't abominable where it's headed for direction. At least it's not flashy generic like OneRepublic's Dreaming Out Loud. Melee was another band that I loathed and hate to such a degree that I simply ignored it and never returned back to it. The only such generic was the unison used in 'The Fortunate'. After more than one listen, it can simply be passed as being grating as it gets. Once 'Georgia' is being played, they can pass on to sound like Jimmy Eat World in the vocals due to the arrangement of the song itself.
Everything's bilked around 'Wasted' which to me is the direction of sound you're gonna get, otherwise I prefer some short ditties that clock 2:30 to 3:06. Not cater to songs that languish over from 5:33 to 9:39. It is an uneven introduction to the band on a major label release. If this is the trend going from indie to major, you're headed in the wrong direction of what this sounds to me. Submitted by Hmmm-mmm (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? | | Cartel Chroma CD (2005)
Cartel CD music
$9.59 Originally released on the Milita Group label in 2005, Cartel's CHROMA was reissued by Epic Records the following year, resulting in much wider exposure for the Atlanta-based pop-punk group. On this full-length debut, the band offers up an immediately accessible set of guitar-laden emo anthems, most notably the lovelorn "Honestly" and the yearning "Runaway." With its guy-next-door ...
| | Cute Is What We Aim For Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch CD (2006)
Cartel music CDs
$11.55 Buffalo-based emo-pop quartet Cute Is What We Aim For serves up familiar-sounding powerchords, punchy drums, and soaring hook-filled choruses. Also familiar is the band's tongue-in-cheek wordplay and their penchant for whine-centric, emo-styled vocals. Yet the band has a smarter, wryer sensibility than many of their contemporaries, and racked up an impressive online buzz before the release of their debut, 2006's SAME OLD BLOOD RUSH WITH A NEW TOUCH. Produced by Panic! At the Disco producer Matt Squire, SAME OLD delivers 12 clever, poppy slices of emo rock sure to satisfy any tenderhearted, irony-loving fan of the genre.
Buffalo, New York's Cute Is What We Aim For are best known for their countless hooks, pop sensibility and witty lyrics. Their debut record "The Same Old Blood Rush With a New Touch" was produced by Matt Squire (Panic! At the Disco, Thrice, Northstar). The band's online presence is unlike anything Fueled by Ramen has ever experienced.

| | Red End Of Silence CD (2006)
Cartel songs
$10.05 The debut album by alternative CCM act Red, END OF SILENCE blends impassioned but not preachy lyrics with heavy alt-rock in a vein that's similar to nu-metal acts like Linkin Park and Evanescence. Singer Mike Barnes's better than average voice and thoughtful lyrics are the band's strongest points, but the group provides a massive rock wallop on tracks like "Breathe into Me" and Let Go."

| | Rocket Summer Do You Feel CD (2007)
Cartel CD music
$10.39 On his 2007 major-label debut, DO YOU FEEL, the one-man-band known as the Rocket Summer--aka Bryce Avary--delivers on the promise of his indie releases, coming across like a less angst-ridden Dashboard Confessional on a power-pop kick. In addition to Avary's multi-instrumental skills and boy-next-door charm, the young Texan performer excels at crafting immediately engaging arrangements, as best embodied by the joyous, piano-driven "So Much Love," which hints at his strong Christian faith. An ambitious and assured artist, Avary fully displays his considerable talents on the emotive DO YOU FEEL, an album ...
| | Miroslav Vitous Guardian Angels CD (1978)
Cartel music CDs
$10.69 All songs written by Miroslav Vitous, except "Inner Peace" (Kenny Kirkland); "Off To Buffalo" (John Scofield); "Eating It Raw" (John Scofield) and "Shinkansen" (Kenny Kirkland).
This is a fusion date that mixes together Miroslav Vitous' acoustic bass with electric instruments including Kenny Kirkland's synthesizer and guitarist John Scofield. Some of the music grooves (such as "Off to Buffalo") while other tracks are episodic mood pieces. Actually most of the performances have an incomplete feel to them with "Guardian Angels" wandering somewhat aimlessly, making this a CD recommended only to completists. ~ Scott Yanow
Miroslav Vitous has long been one of Europe's premier jazz bassists, while John Scofield is a great American guitarist. Their team-up yields music that is immaculately presented but often deficient in the energy and soul departments. That seems by design; such numbers as "Inner Peace" and "Shinkansen" have subdued arrangements, and the players carefully solo without ever straining or exerting themselves. At other times, Vitous and company move into more of a funk or upbeat style and seem even less sure. Vitous' bass work, especially his acoustic bowing, is marvelous, while Scofield plays in a sharp, concise, impressive manner, ...

| | The Morgantown Rounders CD (2006)
Cartel CD music
$17.69 The Morgantown Rounders are an Old-Time string band of eclectic proportions. They are traditionalists pushing the envelope of tradition, infusing high-energy square dance exhilaration into a mix of vintage songs. Unlike bluegrassers, their goal is not to be the fastest trick players but they have plenty of tricks up their sleeves. With a brew of Appalachian tunes at the core you will hear cajun, honky tonk, folk, outlaw country, and other things that rock in varying degrees. From Woody to Hank to Willie to Beau Soleil in the blink of a set, all done as an acoustic string band. The NEW sound of Old-Time. Rachel Eddy has been a full-time private music teacher and performer for her entire adult life. She is widely known in West Virginia as a fiddler and singer but Rachel also wails on banjo, guitar and mandolin. Scott Phillips, sometimes referred to as the Doctor of Banjology, is the Rounders prodigious clawhammer banjo player. Scott has a serious love for Cajun accordion and also builds his own banjos. Jason Jaros on guitar and mandolin also shares singing duties. Jason is a highly in-demand picker, coming to the Morgantown Rounders via the Halftime String Band and the Hillbilly Gypsies. Walt Sarkees is a seasoned guitarist and bass player who attempts to bring a rock and roll edge to upright bass. Wielding the largest of the bands instruments, Walt is the de facto Captain Rounder. Rounders so farIn just over a year, The Morgantown Rounders have built a strong following of fans and friends who come to shows ready to dance. The band has quickly become a popular local headliner and their shows around Morgantown with The Avett Brothers, ...
