Personnel: Orion (vocals); Nergal (guitars); Inferno (drums). Polish death metal heavyweights Behemoth added more ballast to their already formidable and lengthy discography with 2007's APOSTASY. Lead singer Negral's gruff vocals, which sound like they're erupting from the earth's molten core, lend APOSTASY's songs their ominous thrill, but the band's frenetic, crushing attack is the bedrock. The occasional appearance of unique instrumentation, choir chants and soprano leads, and delicate piano passages help keep the sonic landscape varied and intriguing.Kerrang (Magazine) (p.47) - "Poland's satanic black-turned-death metal machine Behemoth announce their return with all the usual non-stop brutality." Apostasy Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Blasting...Devestating....Destroys The only reason this one doesn't get a five is there's chior vocals that seem out of place, and an instrumental that makes me want to bust a pinata open with a stick. Other than that it's solid as heck...very fast and brutal. Compare to Zyklon, Nile, Vader. Submitted by blackmoon (birmingham, al) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Very good! When I listened to this album for the first time I said: Demigod is much better than this one...but now I've changed my mind, because both are very very good albums, so if you're a Behemoth fan you must listen to this album!!! $17.69 *Update! Two tracks from Yuletide Swank are featured in the online "CHAD VADER" Holiday Video Card from YouTube this year. Chad Vader is the short comedic film series that's become an internet hit with over 50 million downloads to date. After colliding at a favorite neighborhood watering hole in Madison, Wisconsin one summer evening, guitarist Dan Hicks and vocalist Courtney Collins instantly bonded over their mutual love of old-school power pop. They closed the evening with a pact to start a band that would pay homage to the bands that inspired them during their formative years, and yet shed new light upon their favorite genre of modern music. The duo started writing together and then set about finding the rhythm section that would complement their music, which they dub "arena pop." Drummer Dave Ross entered the scene and wholeheartedly agreed to join the expedition. The lineup was completed with the addition of Arena Venus's newest member, bassist Andrew Yonda. Hicks' roaring power chords and classic arrangements are augmented by Yonda's melodic and insistent bass lines. Yonda's knack for pop is only complemented by Ross' precise but big beat, which provides the foundation for the playground that is Arena Venus. Collins ties it together with her protean contralto, bright melodies, and multi-entendre lyrics which are usually delivered with tongue planted firmly in cheek. The band's debut EP, "Plucked," was released in July 2003. "Plucked" has been reviewed as a "smart, ...
| | Rhoda Morgan From Brixton To Brooklyn CD (2006)
Apostasy
$7.99 "Growing Up"Rhoda Morgan grew up in London, United Kingdom listening to everything from reggae to classical music. From a young age she developed a huge passion for music. She attended the renowned Sylvia Young Theatre School at 12 years old where she realized her ability to write and produce music. At just 14 years old she made her first demo tape "On the air" recorded in her bedroom studio. The demo tape found its way into the hands of a small independent label Casa Records who immediately recognized Rhoda's talent and approached her to record the dance track 'Say you'll come back to me' which achieved some success in the dance charts. She began spending all her free time at her local recording studio, singing backing vocals for other artists and writing hooks in return for studio time. It was there that she met a producer from the show "Pop Idol" who invited her to audition for Simon Cowell. After a short stint on Pop Idol Rhoda was voice tested for both Universal Island records and Sony/Columbia but she wanted more than what the U.K. music scene could offer her. "The Journey"Aged 18, she packed her bags and relocated to New York City to live out her musical dreams. She quickly began writing and producing for other artists and within a year she emerged as a well respected songwriter and producer. It was not until January 2006 that she started working on her debut album. It took eight months to complete after a number of setbacks including days before its initial release her apartment being robbed with everything she had ever recorded being stolen on the mixers hard drive. However she went back to square one and re-recorded every track from scratch releasing "From Brixton to Brooklyn" in November 2006. It is available at HMV, Tower Records and Virgin Records retail stores as well as online at CD Baby, I tunes, Napster, Rhapsody, Best Buy, Amazon, Yahoo Music and Sony Connect. | | Mark Weigel Green Acres CD (2006)
Apostasy
$9.85 Mark started music at a very young age, following up his early classical studies on the piano with the trumpet. He participated in several school and regional orchestras and concert bands throughout elementary school in Connecticut. At 12, he borrowed his dad's Gibson acoustic and learned some basic chords. Soon after that, he bought his first home-made electric guitar for $15 from a friend who was about to turn it into a skateboard. He started several bands throughout junior high school and high school, all the while keeping up with his trumpet and piano. Mark started to write songs at that time, but neglected to work on the craft. He left High School for Cornell University in January of '87. Throughout school, he continued fostering his enjoyment of music in a band, an a cappella signing group, and an acoustic duo. It was not until his senior year that he began again to write his own songs. His band at the time, the Rock and Roll Chowder, recorded a 10-song demo tape that his friend, Jeff Webb, and he sold on their self-promoted acoustic duo tour of the westbound capital cities in the fall of '91. Mark and Jeff ended up in Colorado, and were soon thereafter joined by the rest of the band. They played the Boulder nightclubs and lived in Nederland. Despite developing a respectable following as the year wore on, several members of the band traveled back to the East Coast to pursue other careers. Mark stayed in Colorado over the summer months to play some songwriter ...
