why did these songs make my cd and the other bazillion songs i've written didn't? well, it's all about the story. (no, this isn't a typo - i write most everything lowercase. i know, i know, it makes spell checking a royal pain.
) anyway ! sometimes even what you put on a cd doesn't really tell the back story of how songs are written, and why, so i'm going to attempt to give you a small nutshell on each song, and then maybe you'll decide to get the cd (hint, hint) and hopefully, it'll be meaningful to you, at whatever point of your journey you find yourself.
you and me was written after a response to reading run with the horses, by eugene peterson. jeremiah inspired me to stand up for truth, even if no one stands with you.
a little more - gosh, this song changed titles 3 times, and 6 rewrite sessions before finally landing. i wrote it after running into someone at church, but we both got pulled away and never were able to connect. how sad, but it happens all the time. she said grew out of a series of discussions with my co-writer about life, and letting go, and how controlling life doesn't get you very far, and how it takes a whole lot of faith.
just like job is probably one of my favorites on this project. it takes courage to look in a mirror, to see yourself as you are. yes, the real you when no one's looking, and to stand before God, honestly.
you know grew out of my studies in the psalms, and how many words that are active words that describe God's daily interactions with us, and my response - i'm safe.
yes, Jesus loves me is my story. this simple childhood song has followed me my whole life.
will you come was written after 2 years of taking God's word seriously and following. this journey is not for the faint of heart, and i am often tempted to lose heart, but there is joy unspeakable, and his love does compel us to follow him.
el que habita is a spanish song that i grew up with in a little baptist church. it's based on psalm 91 - he who abides in the shelter of the Most High.

somewhere over there grew out of a transformation of my focus about this life. something happens to your perspective when confronted day in and day out with life, and pain, and hardship - you start longing for home, the hope of heaven, to see Christ face to face. what could be better!?p.s. why is one of my genres "cuban"? because i am!!
