Omer Avital's idea of jazz includes old and new definitions of swing and temperament, as if the stylistic and generational divisions never existed. He concentrates on rich, flowing singable melodies and tries to touch the never changing core of our human souls, employing whichever musical tools necessary to reach his goals. The bassist from Israel celebrates the release of this new CD "Arrival", as well as his brand new group, performing Middle Eastern music influenced compositions and arrangements, which feature him singing, playing the Oud as well as the bass, accomapnied by well known musicians that includes pianist Jason Lindner, and close friend trumpeter Avishai Cohen. Arrival music CDs
$9.59 It's virtually impossible to believe that DHC have been in existence for 11 years at the date of this album's release, outliving two or three times over virtually all the Two Tone heroes who were such an initial influence on the band. Sure, there's been lineup changes over the years, but not only has the group thrived, they've come back stronger with every shift. What's even more impressive than sheer longevity, is how true they've stayed to their original vision. Musical fads come and go, and many bands transmute over time (just look at No Doubt), but DHC gloriously remain DHC. Even though The Live Album, as the title suggests, is indeed a live album, the 25-song set works equally well as a greatest-hits collection, with tracks drawn almost evenly from their four albums and the Blue Plate Special EP. Over the years, DHC has evolved into a tight, proficient, and professional unit, but never slick, and thus even the oldest songs -- "D.H.C.," "My Problem," "Othello," and "He Wants Me Back" -- are graced with new life. ...
| | Why The Hell Not? The Songs Of Kinky Friedman CD (2006)
Arrival songs
$9.99 Singer, songwriter, actor, novelist, and perhaps the future governor of Texas -- given Kinky Friedman's impressive résumé, you wouldn't think it would be especially hard to assemble a tribute album to the Legendary Texas Jewboy, but 2006's Why the Hell Not...: The Songs of Kinky Friedman suggests it was harder than expected to get his better-known fans to step up to the mic. Four of the ten tracks on Why the Hell Not... were borrowed from an earlier Friedman tribute, 1999's Pearls in the Snow: The Songs of Kinky Friedman, and it's worth noting the best-known names appearing here were lifted from that earlier collection (Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Dwight Yoakam, and Delbert McClinton, all of whom deliver strong and affecting performances). Of the new material, Charlie Robison digs deep into the sad heart of "The Wild Man of Borneo," Jason Boland walks a fine line between wink-and-nudge wit and human tragedy on "The Gospel According to John," ...

| | Mike Stern Between The Lines CD (1996) Reissue
Arrival music CDs
$9.69 BETWEEN THE LINES was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance.
Mike Stern does what he does very, very well. He has carved out a unique niche for himself among modern fusion guitarists, a vision that combines funk and R&B bass/drum grooves with skittish melodies often involving extended chord fragments. Stern's lead voice is one of the most distinctive in the genre as well, as his chorused and sometimes distorted tone is always prominently displayed. Stern is joined on this 1996 offering by frequent collaborator Bob Malach, a tenor player with a particular talent for laying screaming lines on top of smoking drum grooves as well as ably doubling and bringing to life Stern's often bookish and theoretical melodies. Completing the band are twin rhythm sections, consisting either of Dave Weckl and Jeff Andrews or Lincoln Goines and Dennis Chambers. Like many of Stern's recordings, the problems lie generally in the sameness of the arrangements and the relatively forgettable ...

| | Jeff Klepper In This Place: Jewish Songs Of Time & Space CD (2007)
Arrival album
$13.15 For over 1000 years, cantors have created musical sounds to inspire the Jews of their time and place. The celebrated cantor and songwriter JEFF KLEPPER (of the legendary duo Kol B’seder, co-composer of 'Shalom Rav' and 'Lo Alecha') lives in that tradition. His songs bring a fresh voice and spirit to our Jewish world. His classic solo recording, IN THIS PLACE, (re-released on its 10th anniversary) continues in that tradition of exploring and blending the variety of contemporary sounds that speak to today's Jews. From folk, jazz and rock to traditional chant and Middle-Eastern melismas, Jeff's music is unlike anything you will hear on the Jewish scene. His songs are a celebration of the contemporary Jewish spirit, pulsing with energy and serenity, searching for meaning and joy.“Jeff Klepper’s songs are a gift to us all...the soundtrack of our search for God.” (Rabbi Daniel Freelander)The Songs:In This Place opens with the title song, a modern re-telling of the Jacob’s Ladder story, followed by two songs set to poetry by the late Rabbi Chaim Stern, 'You Are Stormwind,' a kabbalistic jazz meditation, and the folky 'Give Me Sleep,' based on the evening Hashkiveinu prayer. Jeff’s jazz-influenced 'Modim,' a prayer of thanksgiving, ...
